Last night I finished reading “A New Goddess (Games of Fire, Book 3)” by Autumn M. Birt. Now, exhale. Depending on how you digest these books this is either Book 6 in “The World of Myrrah” or Book 3 of “Games of Fire Trilogy”...either way, I have a pretty good feeling that this will not be the last we hear about, or hear from our friends from this dimension. I’m a big fan of Autumn’s work (I’ve read all her work to date), and this was pure magic and “Epic Fantasy” at its very best. If it’s been a while since you read the last book never fear...Autumn gives us a refresher and reminds us of the important points from the previous books. Once you are caught up be prepared to be taken on the journey and experience of a lifetime. Creative and intelligent world building and character development is key and really is the meat of this story. The complexity of the story is tamed and simplified by the artful and well thought out writing ability of Autumn. There’s “Fantasy” and there’s “Epic Fantasy” and with Autumn’s brilliant wordsmithing ability you get the latter. If you’re a fan of this genre, this is a must read. If you are interested in reading some of the best in this genre you absolutely must read the books in this series. Action packed and adventure in a world that is only accessible through the imagination of Autumn M. Birt, and which is only attainable through you own ability to imagine. For now it has come to an end, but I wait for the next masterpiece by one of my favorite authors.
From back cover: The time has come to end their punishment or the world.
For nearly destroying the world in an ancient war, the Ashanti were cursed by the Goddess Mhyrah with lifespans of less than a decade. To regain normal lives for his people, Beh’kana, the Ashanti King, will conquer death by gaining control of the source of all elemental magic: the spirit realm. Even if he must burn the world to do so. After all, he already killed his closest friend to gain the Ashanti throne.
But his defeat at the Earth Gate nearly cost him his life.
Lavinia did not seek to be named Guardian of the Spheres when she touched each to gain control of elemental power. But now that choice has propelled her to being the key to stop the Ashanti. She controls the gates that allow magic into the world. And she must close them or the Ashanti will cross into the spirit realm and gain power beyond imagination, enough to enslave or destroy the world they once sought to rule.
But with the closure of each gate, an elemental power is lost.
Only two gates remain open. Magic is faint. Just when the fight grows the most desperate. To win needed help, Lavinia has promised a man who once tried to kill her best friend that she would open the gates and restore magic again.
It might give them the power to fight the Ashanti or it will give their enemy the world.
It's up to our heroes to find stop him from entering the Spirit Gate, the last of the five gates still open. And they can't close it. To do so would end all life on their world. Somehow they have to find the strength to fight back. And to do that, the need the Ring of Valian.
But the Ring was last seen heading into the Spirit Realm. It is a dangerous place for the living. Lavinia, Darag, Niri, Ria, and their friends will have to risk everything on a gamble that they can find the Ring and stop Bek'kana's mad ambition.
If they can't, the Ashanti will enslave their own people. Bek'kana will punish their people with his own race's curse.
Autumn Brit weaves the thread she's laid out in her first trilogy and the first two books of this series towards the climax. Everything has changed. Old eneimes are now friends, once allies are now bitter enemies. The peoples of the world will all have to work together to bring an end to Bek'kana's thirst for power.
This book peels back more of her world and reveals the underlining pinnings of it. This is such a fast-paced and fun book to read. The stakes have never been higher, and the emotions have never been stronger. If you haven't started reading Brit, then you need to pick up Born of Water and start reading this amazing series!
Fans of fantasy will fall in love with the writing of Autumn Brit! I can't wait to see what new and imaginative worlds she'll create next.
