As in all hobbies there tends to be trends. This book describes how to use this new(ish) product which I am sure will be around for a long while as it is superior to leather dyes that we all used for years. Mrs Dellos developed this product in cooperation with Terra Bella and has come up with a excellent product that is easy to apply and gives your gourd the vibrant colors that we almost always strive to achieve. I met Maria at the Folsom Gourd Festival '08 and I was convinced that she really knows her products and has spend 10 years developing the colors and deserves to receive the credit for making these new ink dyes available to all gourd artist. The book is comprehensive and will answer many of your questions but if you still have questions she also has a DVD available from her website.
Originally I bought these dyes from another vendor and I found after several months of using the dyes incorrectly that I was wasting much of the product and I think I would have been wise to have had a lesson before thinking I know everything (hmmm imagine that).
Happy gourding to all.

I found that the information in this book could just as easily have been made into a brochure to accompany the gourd dyes when you purchase them. Yes, the projects are pretty, but there aren't enough of them to merit the price of the book. The dyes need to be heat set and some products mix with others-some don't and the book lacks a lot of important information on using these dyes and to me that also makes the book overpriced. Much is made of the fact that they dry slower than leather dyes and that that makes them superior, but it just makes them different and they have their own set of peculiarities. So if you are new to crafting with gourds and weren't lucky enough to catch the instructions for some of these projects at[..] before they decided to sell them on dvd, than this book will introduce you to the dyes but there are other book that are much more detailed and inspiring than this one

This book covers important techniques that help the self-taught artist have the same results as shown in the book. The beginning of the book has important information, and that is followed by example projects and templates to make them. I like these projects because, for me, the stamps give me the design (I can't draw very well) and then inks are easier for me to use than paint. The embellishments make the final projects stunning. Such great ideas are in this book that you'll have months of projects to try. You can also purchase the inks and rubber stamps from Maria's web store. I recommend this book to people who can't or don't like to draw...to those of us who are not very good with paint...or to anyone who wants to learn some embellishing techniques!

This is a good book for those who don't draw freely and need to know how to use the new ink dyes. For those of us who have been at it for a long time, it doesn't give enough that is different.

A good 'picture' book showing a variety of dyeing techniques, many are quite innovative and provides interesting ideas. Not as indepth as I would have liked but good variety. It spurred a number of ideas for possible projects I had not considered before.

I know that the lovely creations shown throughout the book would be areal source of interest to gourd hobbyists who want to take their creativity to a much higher level. My friend was very impressed and already has a few ideas of her based on the description of the technique used,

This has plenty of ideas, projects, and patterns that can be used in multiple projects other than the ones in the book. Maria makes gourding easy and fun. The projects look more complicated than they are and the work looks professional. She is a very good instructor.
