I also an Elna that does have a smooth surface so this template works great on that machine. If the template will stick to your sewing surface then it's great for aligning on a 45 degree and it also has an extended centerline to help with alignment. It works as advertised and makes these situations simple and easy.
Check for a smooth surface before you buy and you will get good use of this template!
While the size of the size of the Clearly Perfect Angle (CPA) seems large it is only useful up to a 5 1/2” HST. I purchased it to use while making HSTs the 8 at a time method with an initial square of 7 7/8”. It could not be done with the CPA. Instructions seem to say you can use it for larger sizes but you would have to be able to see through your pressure foot to the back of your machine to ensure your point stayed on the correct marking.
Therefore, mixed review. It would be good for making HSTs up to 5 1/2” and if it clings to your specific surface. However, does not work if attempting to use for larger HST or if you do not have a cling-able surface.
I agree with an earlier review that carefully marking your sewing surface with a permanent marker or painters tape works. That is the method I’ve used in the past and will continue using.
