Professor Laura Harrington As a college professor and long-time test-prep tutor, I've evaluated the gamut of test-prep resources. This is, hands-down, the best math SAT book I've seen: clear, articulate, and accessible without being condescending. I was so impressed that I researched the author, and found out that he's won several teaching awards as a high school math and science teacher in New Jersey, which may explain this book's effectiveness: it's written by a teacher who can anticipate student questions and areas of confusion, not a desk jockey. After using it with a few kids, I have decided to make it the required math text for all my student clients.

This is, hands-down, the best math SAT book I've seen: clear, articulate, and accessible without being condescending. I was so impressed that I researched (Googled) the author, and found out that he's won several teaching awards as a high school math and science teacher in New Jersey, which may explain this book's effectiveness: it's written by a teacher who can anticipate student questions and areas of confusion, not a desk jockey. After using it with a few kids, I have decided to make it the required math text for all my student clients. I'm wondering if there'll be one for the verbal section, too..

I just took my SAT's a couple of weeks ago. I read the book and thought it was great. Keller introduces many interesting tactics and strategies for taking the SAT. He tells the reader which questions to answer and which ones to omit if you are low on time. He creates personal plans for students who want to get a specific score. The book also has a little humor in some places. I highly recommend this book!

My daughter is one of those students who actually LIKES math, has always been good at it, and who did an SAT prep course at our local Community College before tackling her first SAT. Despite all this, she kept running out of time during the SAT math portion. Before her 2nd attempt at the SAT she studied and practiced a great deal, so imagine how frustrated she was when her score actually went down slightly!!! It was incredibly frustrating for her. Shortly before her 3rd SAT attempt, I found this book. It is designed to be used together with the College Board SAT Math practice book (College Board publishers are the ones who actually create the SAT Math tests). After less than two weeks of concentrated practice using this book, she did the SAT test for the 3rd time. Her math score shot up 150 points from her highest previous score. The improvement in her score pushed her to a level that qualifies for merit scholarships and Honors Colleges. Thus far, our $16.95 investment has translated into 4 year merit scholarship offers from 3 schools equal to a total of over $200,000 and we haven't even heard from the rest of the colleges yet. So I can honestly say that buying this book has been the single best financial investment I have ever made. The book is nothing less than BRILLIANT!

I first used this book in high school while I was studying for the SATs. I was too immature at the time to take the whole process seriously, and didn't take full advantage of all the tips Mr. Keller offers in his book. I still did well on the math section just because I went over the book a few times. A lot of his tips still helped me because they're very clear and easy to understand, but I know I would have done much better if I had actually put his advice into action on the test day.

My sister and I both used this book again while studying for the GREs. Mr. Keller's book is not geared for the GREs because the point system is different and the questions are more difficult, but a lot of the same principles still apply. Being a little bit more focused this time around, I took the time to study his techniques and it really helped my score. I am naturally much stronger in the verbal section, but I scored 100 points higher in the math than the verbal on the GREs. My sister and I were both accepted to Ivy League graduate programs after using this book.

I would highly recommend buying this book for any student studying for the SATs. It was much more helpful to me than Barron's or Princeton Review books, and was a quicker read. The language and writing style is also helpful in keeping those who may not be so enthusiastic about studying for the SATs engaged.

This book is a good buy for a student who has about 2 weeks before the test to study and is scoring in the 400-620 point range and needs some strategy. However, it does not have the depth and breadth necessary to really bring a student's score up over 100 points. It does have a couple sections that are good (on a few select topics) and is easy to read and conversational in tone. Some of those "good" sections (for example, the functions section) though don't address the most difficult problems-- the ones that kids who have a 700 and want a 790 need to understand. Also, he doesn't have as much practice as some other books (notably Dr. Chung's and the Greenhall-- mentioned below).

I've been tutoring for over 8 years-- and have scored perfectly on the math section both as a student in high school, and an adult on the revised test. This book simply doesn't cover enough angles. There are better books out there-- McGraw Hill's 50 Skills book is a better bet for students in the 500's and I'd say Dr. Chung's book is better for kids 700+-- there's also a book by Greenhall Publishing (Aceing the SAT I Math) that is probably my all around fav for the serious test taker-- someone who has more than a couple weeks to cram and learn a few strategies and tricks (which I don't think are suited for every test taker-- for some perhaps).

Real improvement on the test takes work, and actually learning how to do most of the problems, not skipping the hard ones and just being strategic (an emphasis in this book). When I tutor students I'm looking to teach them math, not quick fix strategies that may or may not work depending on the student (I have some students who get the hard ones right and the easy questions wrong-- the strategies in this book don't work for them!). But if you're looking for quick strategy, maybe you'll like this book.

This is far from a five star in my book-- useful as a tutor (who wants to have everything)! But not my first pick.
