After reading reviews that say this worked on large apples, I went ahead and purchased it. I found that it does not even come close to working for large apples, but medium ones are fine. This is disappointing, because here in Washington State, apples grow very large, and this years crop is larger than most past years. I purchase field run apples, not those graded out to medium sizes for grocery store sales, and find that three of 4 apples do not fit thru the slicer, and the ones that do often have to be forced through.I've attached a photo of 4 apples currently in the house, three Honey Crisp and one Fuji. Of the four, only the smaller Honey Crisp will fit through, and it will shave some off the outside edges to make it.

Replacing a plastic-framed slicer/corer that finally cracked, so I naturally looked for an all-metal design replacement. But the inside dimension is a bit small and won't fit around some large apples, like the jumbo Honeycrisps or Cosmic crisp apples (so I kept my fractured old corer/slicer as backup). The central corer extends beyond the slicing blades and frame so it hits the counter or cutting board first, leaving some scratches, before I realized it (and there's no need for that - the slicer blades and corer could be spot-welded so as to recess the corer which, after all, doesn't need to extend even as far as the blades since the stem-end of an apple is concave!) . And the corer is serrated so it takes more attention to cleaning since it snags bits of apple that need to be deliberately picked out. It's plenty sharp making cleaning a bit hazardous which I discovered early, the hard way.

Except when you push it through an apple, it doesn't completely sever the apple tissue at the bottom. I find the best solution is to press on the top of the core and push the apple down out of the device then, holding the core, break the slices away.
