This book has changed a lot about my outlook and parenting strategies while raising my children (yes i went 2 for 2 on strong willed children)...
However, like Dr. Dobson discusses in the book, once my wife and I carefully explaine the daily expectations and consequences surrounding each task or social interaction (pre-school, out with Mom running errands, etc.) he is empowered to make good "choices" as to how he conducts himself. Mom and I explain, calmly and politely, what his limits are and what kind of behavior is expected for each situation followed by what the consequences are if those expectations are not met. The consequences are always carefully thought-out, conducive to the circumstance and environment and are employed without hesitation but without overreaction. Once he knows where the limits are and what the consequences are beyond those limits, he is then empowered to make his own good conscious choices. We have been employing this for about a month and is now doing wonderfully! We have an even closer relationship now and with a mutual understanding a greater respect. Great book!!
