About the Author
When Ray Geide was in the sixth grade, a friend told him, "I tried to read the Bible once, but there were too many thees and thous. I gave up." When he heard this, he wondered why someone had not updated the Bible and changed the thees and thous to you so that unchurched people like his friend could read it.
At that time he did not know that for almost fifty years God would prepare him to do just that and much more.
He received his formal Bible training in a Bible college (B.A. in Theology) and seminary (MDiv, with highest honors, in New Testament Studies with an emphasis in New Testament Greek).
His proficiency in New Testament Greek improved even more while he was a missionary in Russia for nine years when he became fluent in the Russian language, a language similar in structure to New Testament Greek.
He worked as a translator for many years in a nonprofit organization and in a business.
He studied and taught the Bible in the five churches that he pastored.
When he was not a pastor, he was studying the Bible in his spare time and teaching it as a layman.
His decades of research into the Bible’s words revealed three big problems: 1) the Bible’s traditional words do not mean what Christians think they mean; 2) most Bible versions do not adhere to good translation standards; and 3) some Greek words and phrases have been translated wrong.
To correct these and many more problems, he wrote the Breakthrough Version and the Breakthrough KJV.

With that said let me say that I, personally, believe in the total inerrancy of the Word. I believe that it is and was totally 'God-breathed' as it says in 2 Timothy 3:16. I also believe it is totally our responsibility, as believers, to check out any passage or translation that does not 'ring true' for us with all the resources we have. So when I had a question about a passage I went to my Key Word Hebrew-Greek Study Bible, any or all of the commentary's I could find, a variety of other study Bibles, and did on-line research when necessary. Guess what? I never found a time when this translation was inaccurate or not applicable.
I received a copy of this Bible from Breakthrough Bible Publishing for the sole purpose of reading and review. The thoughts and comments in this review are totally my own and influenced only by my personal and life experiences. I have spent the past 6 months using this translation in teaching, study and worship experiences. It has shed light on some passages and taken me to new thoughts on things I already thought I knew. It is an excellent resource for any Bible teacher and I am delighted to add it to my library and highly recommend it for yours.
I hoped that this translation would shed light on challenging passages, words and phrases that can be interpreted in several ways.
Regrettably, this was not the case.
Instead, I found the New Testament Breakthrough translation full of claims such as certain words being outdated or fabricated - words that are universally understood by Christians such as study, grace, worship and believe - that the author never substantiates.
To correct these so-called problems, the author created the New Testament Breakthrough Version.
Unfortunately, the translation does not illuminate the text - it diminishes it. The New Testament Breakthrough Version strips away the essence, heart and meaning of the passages.
For instance, the author replaces the word "apostle" with the word "missionary" - but this is not an acceptable substitute! The two words have different meanings! For instance, Paul - who wrote a significant portion of the New Testament - is not simply a missionary - he is an apostle - a disciple specifically chosen by Jesus to spread the gospel to the world!
This concept is an important part of New Testament teaching because enemies of the gospel have tried to undermine Paul's authority as an apostle since biblical times - and today, they continue to do so as a way to undermine the authority of the Bible!
There are many good Bible translations that modernize the text yet manage to ensure linguistic accuracy. Unfortunately, this is not one of them.
I regret that I am unable to endorse or recommend this book in any way.
