His writing style can be a little too “proper” to feel conversational – even though he offers good solid advice worth reading. Even worse, he often devotes a paragraph or more to a design solution, and then he doesn’t offer a photo! Case in point, he writes for two paragraphs (which is a lot for a book with way more photos than text) about a tight space in which he had to use a murphy bed – a solution that he would ordinarily have frowned upon, but wound up using to his delight. He even describes how he customized the Murphy bed cabinet, but the photo that follows is of an unrelated room with a STANDARD BED! I guess we just have to imagine the room with the beautiful murphy bed...
Buy this book if you feel you want good sensible advice and can ignore the writing style. Buy it if you want a different take on traditional – no chintz, plaid or dark brooding colors here! Even add it to your portfolio of design books for the photography - which is top notch as long as you don’t mind that the pictures aren’t relevant.
