This isn't "perfect" inasmuch the narrow portion of the pack is what rests against the wall. This would seem to mean the center of gravity works against the device staying plugged into the wall. That being said, I haven't encountered any problems with it falling out of outlets.
There is the convenience of the built in microUSB cable with works well with my Galaxy S3, but if I ever get an iPhone, I'll need to use a separate cable or microUSB to Lightning converter. It has two USB plugs one of which is at 2.1 amps which means I can charge both my Galaxy S3 and my iPad mini at the same time.
I do worry about the overall battery health inasmuch as I am not occasionally depleting the battery. Toyota Research confirmed that some lithium ion batteries have memory: http://dailyfusion.net/2013/04/some-lithium-ion-batteries-actually-do-have-memory-effect-study-finds-5864/ . My worry is not great, though: the study claims "The effect is in fact tiny: the relative deviation in voltage is just a few parts per thousand."
Not only does it charge itself with the built-in plug, it can also charge your phone via micro USB while charging itself. The 2 USB ports are also available for use while this pack is plugged into a wall. I have not ventured to testing if all of these work all at once, I'd prefer not to try.
I love how I don't need to carry around a micro USB cable with this product, because the cable is built in. It's a totally self-contained product. I do use an Apple Lightning adapter with it, but this charging pack is so small that it can fit inside a change purse, a small camera bag, or a tiny Clinique make up bag. I just toss the adapter in the bag with it and I'm ready to go.
I usually am able to completely charge my iPad mini or at least get it to 75% full if I've totally killed my iPad mini. Usually I just need to get a few extra hours out of my iPad so I can charge it to 35% and be good for about 3 hours of solid use, more if in standby.
It takes a long time for the travel pack to fully charge itself (takes all night) but it works well with even just a partial charge. My phone doesn't take a lot to charge, and neither do my Bluetooth devices. There are blue lights that indicate if it is fully charged or not. 4 steady blue lights means a full charge, 3 steady blue lights with one blinking fourth light means that it's still charging.
+ Size and form factor
+ External plug - this is the killer feature
+ Reliability - I have had mine for 1.5 yrs and it is still ticking
+ Built in micro USB plug - very convenient when you forget your other usb cables
+ Compatibility - the 1.0a and 0.5a ports work with every gadget I have
- 2.1a port Compatibility. Some issues with current gen products and the 2.1a port. All other ports work fine.
- Capacity. A little bit dated. Still works for most gadgets, but current gen gadgets use higher capacity batteries now.
There's just two things that I feel could be done to further improve the device. The LED's are kind of hard to see since they are behind a thick peice of semi-translucent plastic, I have a feeling they could have done a much better job of making them visable. And the aesthetics. It has an odd shape, thinner on the edge and bulges in the middle, meaning it doesnt lay flat and laying your device on it makes it wobble about. Finally, the plastic is a glossy black that Im not a fan of, as it picks up fingerprints with ease.
