I've given up about 13% of the way through.
I enjoyed the modern theme to the love story - Zoe is a digital media expert and good at her job. The ups and downs of her relationship with Tom were very authentic (and Tom's mother is a nightmare).
I was stunned when the book ended on a cliffhanger. I was so not expecting that! I hope a sequel is in the pipeline because I need to know what happens!
It starts off with Zoe who lives in Berlin, Germany writing on her mirror with lipstick the words Career, Career, Career; trying to impress upon herself that she will focus solely on her career and not on relationships with men.
This thinking is short-lived however when Zoe who works for a German magazine called "Vision" gets transferred to the NYC office.
Zoe has never lived in NYC let alone visit so she gets thrown into a world she knows nothing about. Luckily, she is quickly friended by Eros and Mimi who really serve as her compass and guides so to speak. Eros, a co-worker helps Zoe at work and both Mimi and Eros help her with adjusting to Manhattan.
Right away, Zoe meets a most alluring man named Tom but he has a secret that he doesn't bother to share with Zoe. And when she finds out who he is, it gives her quite a fright.
The romance that develops between Tom and Zoe was truly magical. And I got totally swept away.
The character of Zoe is so real and you see New York through her eyes and she really touched my heart. She made me laugh a lot and even made me cry. And we get to see her grow as a character and go after and get what she wants.
This is Susann Remke's first book and I am beyond impressed. I am looking forward to reading more of her work in the future.
I am not sure the author intends there to be a sequel and I am alright with that. I am a little tired of books that always end so neat and tidy.
If it was the ending in a movie, I am not sure people would be expecting a sequel.
I took the ending as life keeps on and when one thinks it's going in one direction it can suddenly take an unexpected turn.
