“In [Tomine's] illustrations, Edward Hopper–like situations--of dogs under disused railway bridges, or people on a street corner--take on a wry edge.” ―The Economist

“Tomine explores New York's culture and its passing moments, asking us to reflect on the city's quirks and tenderness.” ―The New Yorker

I enjoyed Tomine's clean lines and minimalist color scheme but none of the cards are special enough to keep in my permanent collection. There were a few drawings from his sketchbook which I disliked. Some artifacts (printing error) marred Tomine's art. This collection should please yuppies and anyone interested in the contradictions of modern life. I bought during Cyber Week with 30% off coupon so it was OK deal.

I own 10+ postcard collections and the following are far better than this set:
BEAUTIFUL OWLS
AMERICAN GIRLS
NATIVE AMERICANS
WATER LIGHT TIME (DOUBILET)

The box was slightly used or damaged outside, but inside is all ok. I am always a bit dissappointed, when I can not see whole list of pictures I will receive, so it is sometimes a not so pleasing surprise. About half of cards in this box are not very attractive (not my taste), but the other rest will find their place in my postcard life :) Printing quality is fine, thick paper - half-matt on outside and glossy on the text side.

If you already know what these Adrian Tomine drawings are and are familiar with who made them then you probably already guess you'll like these postcards. I think you'll be right.
