when i get a cookbook, i'm thrilled to find a handful of recipes to add to my "i love it" collection. this is truly the first cookbook where i can only exclude a few recipes from the "i love it" collection. i love almost every single recipe in the book. what a surprise from paul newman and a.e. hotchner. i never gave the actor the credit for being able to cook. i might even try some of his products now.

I have tried several of the recipes and have not had a single one that I did not like. Good instructions, most of the recipes do not have too many ingredients. My family has complimented everything that I have made.

I am a big fan of Paul Newman, the actor, and also Paul Newman the food mogul. Mr. Newman's salad dressings, sauces, popcorn and especially his lemonade are among the best products on the market. As an added bonus, all the after tax profits go to charity. This cookbook provides many of Mr. Newman's recipes as well as the type of humorous writing that appear on the labels of his products. In addition to Mr. Newman's recipes, such stars as Nicole Kidman and Matthew Broderick supply recipes. A fun book, the recipes are simple to follow and make and all the money goes to a good cause.

I did not originally acquire this book for the food--I did it because it was a good cause and I grew up in the vicinity of the authors--but in the end, it's about the food. While there are pictures of the celebrity authors and contributors, they are infrequent, black and white candids. Newman and Hotchner let the food take the stage and it is the stuff of fun evenings with friends. While some recipes call for Newman's Own products, it is always stated that cooks may substitute another choices. There is some originality to the dishes--consider making a custard with lemonade instead of milk or baking a cake made with pasta sauce. The directions are simple, the food pleasantly earthy. The selection is a bit idiosyncratic but carnivores and vegetarians will find suitable selections. Not bad at all.

Is there anyone who has not heard of Paul Newman, and his 'Hole In The Wall Gang'? This is the charitable organization that Paul Newman started with the proceeds of his family's food stuffs production, and it is still going strong after all these years. Paul Newman was a good man,and he is missed.

Paul Newman and his friend A. E. Hotchner filled old bottles with their homemade salad dressing to give to friends as Christmas gifts. The salad dressing was such a hit that they went on to make a company that started with salad dressings. after all these years many hundreds of millions of dollars have been given to charity.

Paul Newman, and his friend AJ Hotchner, have put together over 125 of their favorite recipes in this book. this us a great cookbook because it brings back some fond memories of meals gone by. 'The Newmanburger' and 'Nell Newman's Cauliflower and Parmesan Soup' are favorites. Robert Redford contributed his Lamb Chili with Black Beans, Julia Roberts's Fresh Peach Crisp, Matthew Broderick's Grilled T-bone Steak with Sweet Onion Marmalade and Campfire Mustard Sauce, and Whoopi Goldberg's Big Bad Ass Beef Ribs. Of note, I have heard Whoopie say recently she only knows how to roast turkey, so have no idea where her recipe came from. There are so many good recipes, and the money goes to the Paul Newman charities, now his daughter, Nell is in charge. I saw her speak at our local Food COOP a few years ago, and she is a very talented CEO.

A superb cookbook with much history.

Recommended Highly. prisrob 06-07-15

This is a very nice cookbook. However, I bought it hoping that it would contain the rest be to Paul's mother's Hungarian goulash which he so highly praised. Unfortunately it did not. But other than that I'm very satisfied with the book. I would recommend it

I purchased this hardcover cookbook several years ago on a whim because I have enjoyed Newman's Own products for quite some time (and am very glad they keep expanding their line). The book offers a wide selection for just about any taste and many will undoubtedly satisfy discerning taste buds easily. There are starters, soups, salads, side and main dishes, desserts, you name it. And, they are all very easy to follow which, to me, is rule number one for any cookbook. The one thing this book does not have that many do are color photos of the dishes once they are prepared. For me, that does not matter as I am not certain I have ever exactly duplicated what an experienced food photographer and a more experienced/professional chef can create. What matters most is the taste when done. Each and every dish has achieved that. Another thing you will notice are some of the extremely long names of the dish, such as "The Grilled Bird of Youth Meets Judge Roy Bean Salad," and the like. And, as Paul was an actor, many of the recipes have some great origins (like from other celebs), which are revealed at the onset of each where they appear. There are also some nice photos of he and his friends scattered throughout the book. So, this is more than just cookbook with some very good recipies, it is also entertainment, something else he did quite well. If you want to prepare some great tasting dishes (Rigatoni with Chicken Sausage and Artichokes or Cool Hand Luke's Brunch Burrito, for example) pick up a copy and try some (or all of) them. Then sit back and finish it off with Julia Robert's Fresh Peach Crisp. They will not disappoint.
