Nex evolves with you. You're the boss.
The all-new Nex Band Evolution ain’t your grandpa’s smartband, but maybe he’s just more of a pocket watch guy.
Nex can integrate with virtually any app in your IOS or Android phone via bluetooth in a completley customizable way. You can quickly change the functions and light pattern notifications with hundreds of apps to give you control via 5 touch-sensitive mods. The experience will grow deeper the more you use it. That’s why we’re looking to our community to share their most creative hacks however imaginative, sophisticated or high-tech they might be. Create a goldfish feeder, motion detector alert, booby trap, or Rube Goldberg whatchamacallit? If so, we want to know about it. Share it with us on social media using #Nexhacks as a tag.
Light Up Your Life
Prompt and Private. Choose from over 50 custom light patterns to communicate your alerts.
Your light patterns will alert you of who, where and what your notifications mean. They're quick, effortless and hands-free which can reduce digital stress by filtering what matters most to you. In fact, with the Evolution on your wrist, you can even send messages directly to your friends from a tap of the wrist. Communicate with each other without taking your phone out of your pocket.
Colors and patterns can represent different things to different people. Sending and receiving light Emojis won’t broadcast your personal information to the world (well, unless you want it to!). Don’t see a light pattern you like? Create one of your own with Nex’s custom light pattern editor... you could call it the Picasso of smartbands.
Hacking is fun and easy. Get to it in a matter of seconds.
If you know what the words When and Do mean then you're already a hacker. For example, When I double tap this Mod, activate my music controller. When I long tap this Mod, take a selfie I can share with my friends. How in-depth the hacks are is entirely up to you. We’ll leave it to your imagination as you go deeper into the experience.
Whatever you decide to create with your Nex, your limitless hacks can be created in just three seconds. If you don't have that time spare, activate Nex's most popular hacks with a single touch. The Nex Hacks dashboard includes Snapchat, fun mini games, beatbox, giphys, a music controller and much more!

The music controller easy to set up and the hack I use most often. It works through my phone or even if I’m connected to a bluetooth speaker. And although the company says Sonos is coming, it actually works with them already. It does work perfectly fine for my Spotify and iTunes music. The Maker Channel is also pretty neat if you’re a developer. But I’m not that advanced of a user. I’m just having a blast with some of the fun hacks like triggering random sound effects and playing with the DJ beatbox hack. I also use the pin drop and share location hack quite a bit when I’m on my bike. I haven’t had a chance to play with any of the social features or games yet as none of my friends have Nex Bands yet.
The fitness is pretty damn good. I’m not a huge fitness person but I like the activity tracking and set it to notify me when I reach 10,000 steps (which I’ve hit only once!). I notice it is a little more sensitive than fitbit so you’ll get credit for smaller movements like standing up or picking something off the group where it seems Fitbit would ignore. Not sure which is better - but a philosophical difference. There is no heartbeat monitor. Then again, it’s only $80.
The integration with IFTTT is pretty good but is supposedly going to be much better next month (again, I’ll update). Right now, you can do a bunch of IFTTT related hacks in their “See More Hacks” section of their app. But for more complicated hacks, you’ll have to go back and forth a bit to the IFTTT app. But like I said, this is supposedly going to be all under the Nex roof soon anyway.
But maybe the best thing about this band is the customer support. You just have to go online and chat. They answer in less than a minute usually. This probably won’t last forever but for now it’s an indulgence I’ve been taking advantage of even for little questions. The battery pretty good. The band lights up when done charging and plays a little animation when it starts charging. It would be cool if there was a sound effect triggered to let you know when it’s done. But not that big a deal. Charges pretty quickly.
The band looks pretty cool too on my wrist.
The strap is a little difficult to put on tightly with one hand. I found the easiest way is to press the band against your leg so you have some resistance to put it on tightly if that’s your preference. If you’ve got a lot of hacks, just make sure to turn your touch off though so you don’t trigger any accidentally.
There are a LOT of little extras that the band can do that they don’t advertise (like putting it in do not disturb mode by covering all the buttons) but there’s no one place to find all of these. To be fair, the company is very responsive to questions both on their forums and live chat. And all of the little extras are on there on YouTube on on their site, but they could probably benefit from a pdf that has all of this information.
Battery wasn’t charged when it arrived and it took a bit to understand how to clip the charger on. Once you get it, it’s easy and they show you how on their YouTube page. But if you don’t know about that video, it may take a little fidgeting the first few times.
I used to have a band that was just used for location sharing. The thing that I love about Nex is that this is just one of the many things it can do. It’s really fast and easy to change it up. I also get a lot of comments from people asking me about it when it lights up. You can see how this is going to catch on. Being able to control things with just a touch is like wearing an Amazon dash button. There’s so much you’ll eventually be able to do with this technology; order pizza, call an Uber, unlock your car. But even now, it’s still a lot of fun to use!
Personally I prefer a mechanical watch to a smartwatch, but without giving up to manage my recipes IFTTT in a fast and simple way through a wearable device. And that is precisely what the Nex Band offers you in a fantastic way. And the APP, great!
Thanks for creating the device.
Basically, it has 5 buttons/lights that are individually programmable. You don't need to be a programmer to use it, though. You can use IFTT to tell each button what to do and when. I've got one that lights up whenever one of my friends post on Instagram, another to tell me when I've taken enough steps, one that controls the camera on my phone (for taking group photos), and one to make my phone ring. (I thought that last one would be a good idea to have an excuse to break away from uncomfortable social situations, but so far I haven't really used it so I might reprogram that one.) It's nice that it's super flexible, so if I decide there's some functionality I'm not really using, I can just reprogram it to do something else.
Another benefit of the Nex is its minimalist design. There are a lot of other smart watches that will notify you about things from time to time, but you have to look at your watch to see what's going on. Because there are only 5 lights, you can tell at a glance, and it doesn't look like you're checking your email while talking to a friend. It also looks like a cool lit up bracelet, so it doesn't feel like you're wearing a smart tech device.
