I loved the fierce MC, Alina. One of the "elite," she is a trained assassin with the ability to get in and get out, which earned her the code name 'Viper' in the Organization. Her job was to take out terrorists before they had a chance to do harm to the United States. C W Browning has created a character who is smart, capable, feisty, mysterious, dangerous, and just flawed enough to make her interesting. Her bird-of-prey side-kick, Raven, is an MC is his own right, adding his own mystique to the story.
And then there's Damon, the male MC, who operates in intelligence and is also a trained assassin for the U.S. I could use all of the same adjectives to describe him as I used to describe Alina. He is all of that and a hunk besides. I loved the scenes where he hides in a tree in the woods and keeps watch over Alina from a distance, and the undercurrent that runs between them.
In this story filled with action; intrigue; interesting characters; great plot and dialog, I have found a new quality author that does it all and does it well. Even though Next Exit, Three Miles is part of a series, Browning doesn't give us the cliff-hanger ending some authors employ to make sure we buy the next book. Instead, she gives us closure to the story, while making us eager to read the next one. I like that. If her next books continue in the vein of this one, I will be a fan for life.
Because I don't care for play by play accounts of the story in a review, I will not give that style of review here. I believe I've offered good reasons why this novel deserves the highest rating I can give it. Like cream on milk, when this new author is discovered, I've no doubt she'll rise straight to the top; she's that good. I highly recommend this book. 5+ stars
