I'd like to buy another one, but am gun-shy based on this experience.
The app works seamless, and Alexa is really cool and i just ordered some things off amazon i needed for home while driving. The installation process took 10 mins and i will be purchasing the hardwire kit accessory as well.
This unit has emergency SOS that will alert emergency responders in the case of an accident if I am not able to reach the camera or my phone, i like that safety feature for my family.
I highly recommend this product to all my family, friends and anyone looking to get a dash cam, and will buy another for my wifes vehicle.
Note: buy a sd card along with the camera.
up with my phone like my Nest security system, but no it didn't. It might be easy for others, but I think like one other reviewer reported it looks for wifi on the internet and you have to put your phone in airplane mode to trick it to join
up. I'm hoping that I don't have to do that every time I get in the car and revised , yes you do. I’m lowering my rating to one star, because this dash cam is impossible to stay linked up to phone and therefore none of the features are available.

Make sure your mobile is charged up sufficient before you start downloading the Nextbase app ( I didn't and had to sit charging my phone while I ran the car lol) The download is super quick so no worries about sitting for ages. I've been using is for a week almost and I also got the rear cam as well...definitely worth the extra £50.
(If you do add on the rear cam, when fitting the wire I'd recommend you fit it to the main dash cam at the front, then feed the wire to the rear cam at the back. I did it the opposite way and ended up with a mahoosive coil of wire at the front. At least at the rear you can feed this into the side panels out of view.
I suppose the main feature that I’ve not yet seen anyone else mentioned is the Screen Saver option, instead of having the screen showing being blank or showing what your recording, instead you can choose Speed Display, which after around 40 seconds, will display your current speed which is a really nice idea.
Hopefully I'll never have cause to use it in anger, but it seems good so far. Check the memory card requirements as it's quite selective. It also only appears to pair with a single phone at a time which is a little annoying but liveable.
Will try and update once I've used it a little more.
Update 21 July 2019. In desperation I removed my dash cam from the list of devices to which the Alexa app on my iPhone was allegedly paired then went through the connection process again. SUCCESS!. Now I can instruct Alexa by voice while driving to play music, answer questions etc totally hands free. If Alexa continues to work I will be delighted and will give the Nextbase 522GW the full 5/5.
Still working beautifully so I’ve changed my rating to 5/5.
I installed the mount using the sticky pad on the windscreen just behind the mirror. I’ll add to this more comprehensively once I have used for longer.
Some things to note;
The camera lens is very wide angle (I would guess 24 or maybe 21mm) and as a result the recorded footage gives an appearance of greater speed than you are in fact travelling and passed or passing objects will come into and out of frame much more quickly than you will perceive by eye (which is the equivalent of a 50mm focal length I believe). The cam view as seen on the cam screen on the camera does appear more wide angle than the recorded footage when viewed on a computer I've found, not sure why.
The camera itself when connected to a computer simply mounts as an external volume enabling you to search by date and then view the chunks of footage with your usual media player though free video editing software is available from the maker's website which is rather generous.
The recorded video quality is excellent and I suspect that reviews stating poor quality is a result of viewing the low resolution version of the footage which is the default setting; a high and lo-res version of each chunk of recorded video. I changed this so mine records hi-res only.
I've had occasional GPS drop out which is corrected by one tap on the screen which is safe enough while driving and is no fault of the camera.
Likewise I've had two lock-ups where the screen freezes or turns blank which is rectified by pulling over and pressing the little reset button on the camera; I suspect this could just be a read/write error to the SD card that confuses the dash cam and puts it into a terminal loop.
Finally I can confirm that if your cigarette lighter socket is wired to 'ignition on' you can leave the power socket from the cam plugged in all the time without draining the battery.
All in all highly recommended.
The camera is great quality, not as wide field of view as my last cam so this is 140 degrees I think.
I use mine with the rear view clip on module and doing so requires user of a nextbase memory card (sold separately) and at a premium if you don't want card errors. If you use it for front only any card that U rated should suffice.
Overall happy but annoyed about the alexa thing not working well for dashcam related stuff
Update for November 2019:
Alexa still doesn't work, at least not to save videos. paired and unpaired over and over and never got it to work so that's a fail.
Also parking mode is a pain in the rear, it will set to record if it detects movement while idle. 2 things... 1 the battery doesn't hold enough charge to boot itself on mine between leaving the car and coming back the next morning. And 2, even when it does, when I unlock the car door it records and locks the recording, thinking its been alerted.
Very frustrating for what had been a large investment in car security.
