I chose to use unswitched power for the setup. Power is always available even when parked. If someone were to bump the car or worse if someone tries to break in, the cams G sensor gets triggered, the cam turns on and records the event. The rear window camera is very useful for backing up. The field of view to the rear is wide enough to see most things on your blind spots but as expected not all. Still this is many times better than just the mirrors. I like the rear view feature so much that I leave it on all the time. It's great for monitoring cars in your blind spots in the city and the highways.
I have only one small gripe. The daytime view of the display is a little too dim for my old eyes. That's probably because I enabled the light sensor which will automatically adjust the brightness of the screen to the ambient light which is great for night driving. I wish there was a way to customize it.
So that's it folks. Buy it!
I have a 312GW in my truck that I bought in 2019, and I was so happy with it that when we moved to LA and started driving our sedan 90% of the time, I bought a new 322GW for it. A couple months later, I bought this camera to add a rear view after we got bumped at a red light (no damage, no injuries thankfully!)
The camera was immediately recognized as soon as I plugged it in, BUT I got a big warning screen that I needed a high quality U3-rated card to record. I had bought a high endurance Samsung 128GB U3 card for my truck and thought I'd bought the same for my sedan, but I actually got the "Pro" version of that card which has more endurance at the cost of a U1 speed rating. Since my truck has a 312GW, which can't have a rear camera, I just put the U1 card in it and the truck's U3 card in the sedan and as soon as it was formatted, we were off and running!
The camera lens itself has some movement to it so you can point it where you want to get the best view. It's a telephoto lens so it doesn't really get much of the back of the cabin (depending on your vechicle), but that's by design- this camera is focused more on getting that rear view like your rear view mirror would. If you want a rear camera to keep a passenger view as well as outside, there's another rear view camera module you should get (great for say, a rideshare driver.)
It has a big wide field of view and has no problem at all seeing through the medium tint on our back window. It's a bit pricey for what you're buying, but I look at it as insurance- a GW322 + rear camera + good SD card are less than a deductible, so if it helps you prove your innocence in just one claim you've paid for it. And even if not, knowing that you have it is worth a lot!

At the time of this posting, if you use this module or any add on camera (I use 522gw) you'll need to be using a nextbase branded memory card, or else you'll get errors on screen. Not sure if there is a fix in the world for this.
Great little camera, integrates with main unit very well, recordings on the app come out duplicated, so for a30 second clip, for example - you'll have a front and rear video rather than a picture in picture combined video. (at least on the nextbase app)
The lens is position adjustable so you can point it direction easily and yeah, no quibbles so far
I have tested it in a night time, in street light situations, pulling away from traffic lights etc it is easy to read reg plates on cars behind. However when driving at speed this is not the case (if someone hits you they'll be coming to a halt anyways)
I have not test this module at night time with NO street lights. So I can't comment on that.
Also you require a speed 10 *U3* micro SD card in the 522GW in order to attach this rear module. It will not record on a standard speed 10 micro SD card
Was very easy to install. Mounting and positioning couldn't be easier, it's like an eyeball that just sticks to a bracket magnetically, plug n play picture wise...
However this is also the reason to lose stars as there is no way to lock it in position once you've got it set up, so the natural vibrations of the car or the slight tension of its cable (no matter how carefully you secure the cable) it moves slowly out of position every few days so you end up recording the boot or ceiling until its noticed, which isn't ideal if it's moved when you needed it.
I put a little bluetack around the eyeball where it meets the bracket to stop it drifting which has worked for a few weeks, but now considering a spot or two of superglue as it did get knocked again slamming closed the tailgate.
Overall a great camera, recommended and would buy another despite the mounting design flaw.
