Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 1-3–Baseball factoids and tips on how to play are presented alongside a slight narrative that includes readers as participants: "You hit the ball past the third baseman. You drop the bat and run to first base. You are safe!" This annoying feature aside, there's little here that's particularly laudable or original. The cartoon drawings are especially poor, notable for their lack of depth and detail, and this weakness becomes glaringly apparent when illustrating aspects of baseball play. Plenty of superior books are available, including Margaret Blackstone's This Is Baseball (Holt, 1993), Rachel Isadora's Nick Plays Baseball (Putnam, 2001), and Gail Gibbons's My Baseball Book (HarperCollins, 2000).–Marilyn Taniguchi, Beverly Hills Public Library, CA
