Álvaro Martínez Bueno is a Spanish comic artist, working exclusively with DC Comics. He is the co-creator and artist on the best selling series by DC Black Label The nice House on the lake, written by Jame Tynion IV.
In his long career as a cartoonist for the American comic market, he has also worked on other DC series such as the mythical Detective Comics, Justice League Dark, Batman & Robin Eternal, Aquaman, Grayson or X-Men, among others, for the publishers Marvel Comic and Valiant Entertainment.
Throughout his career, Martínez Bueno has illustrated scripts by James Tynion IV, Scott Snyder, Ram V, Tom King or Tim Seeley and has collaborated with artists such as the inkers Stefano Gaudiano and Raül Fernández, or the colorists Brad Anderson and Jordie Bellaire, among others.

This is exactly what I was looking to get into. It gave me the creeps in the first issue but it really just keeps getting better and better as it goes along. I read the whole book in a few hours it was hard to put down. The art style isn't something I'm used to it's a bit more abstract than some of the other things I read. I love the characters they each have their own personalities that come across very early on. I like that there is a variety and that some people have their significant others and not everyone is alone. I don't want to spoil anything even though you don't find out too much in the first volume. It's a bit of a slow burn but there are so many breadcrumbs to follow that you can't help but be interested. I have the next volume coming tomorrow so I hope to finish the whole series in two days. That's how good it is. As someone who likes a lot of Vertigo titles this is a really good series for DC Black Label. From what I've read online they are planning to do a second cycle of this series beyond the 12 issues so I'm pumped. The setting is really cool and visually gorgeous to look at so I'd love to see more.

I’m not much of a horror fan (that being said), I gobbled this trade up in one sitting. Tynion is hot off winning both the Eisner and Ringo awards for Best Writer in 2021 and the critics haven’t forgotten him in 2022. “The Nice House on the Lake” is nominated for Best New Series and Tynion is once again up for Best Writer. Regardless of the other reviews, this book is a fun marriage of both the best aspects of the 1963 classic “The Haunting” and the TV show “Lost” (if that description doesn’t interest you then you’re closed off to this theme and wasting your time). The art is very complimentary to the project and adds a complexity that is both smart and engrossing. I found the ensemble interesting and relatable. Even if the payoff fails to deliver (like “Lost”) the ride will have been well worth it.
