Product Description
Product Description
The Nicholson hobby file set is an assortment of 6 files in a variety of shapes that are 5-1/2" long and have double-cut Swiss pattern teeth for a range of home or shop uses. The Swiss pattern teeth are double-cut for rapid material removal, with high precision for work on delicate or intricate parts. The built-in handle of each file is round and knurled for a secure grip. The set comes in a vinyl pouch for storage.
Hand files are used to remove material and smooth and shape workpieces. They have forward-facing cutting teeth and cut when pushed over either a stationary or rotating workpiece. Single-cut teeth are single rows cut diagonally across the width of the file. Double-cut teeth have two sets of rows cut in opposite directions. American pattern files have three coarseness grades. Coarse, also known as bastard cut, is suitable for efficient, heavy material removal where finish is not a concern. Medium, also known as second cut, offers average material removal and finish quality. Fine, also known as smooth cut, provides the smoothest finish. Swiss pattern files have eight coarseness grades, from 00 (coarse), 0 (medium), and 1 to 6 (fine to finest), offering a smoother finish than equivalent American pattern files. For Swiss pattern files the length of the tool is the length of the blade, not counting the tang, which is the pointed end fitted for a handle; for American pattern files the length of the tool is its entire length, including the tang.
Nicholson manufactures hand tools and power tool accessories. The company is headquartered in Sparks, MD.

From the manufacturer
In 1864, William Thomas Nicholson invented a machine that could consistently produce high-quality files and subsequently launched the Nicholson File Company. In doing so, he revolutionized the file manufacturing industry. In an era when hand-made files were preferred, Nicholson proved his company’s machine-cut files were not only more affordable, but offered more consistent quality than hand-made tools.
Through the decades that followed, Nicholson File Company continued to prosper by refusing to compromise the superior quality of its products. Maintaining this commitment, Nicholson was able to adapt and expand its capacity to make products that served an infinite variety of demands, and by 1893 the Nicholson exhibit at the World’s Fair in Chicago featured more than 3,000 unique styles of Nicholson files and rasps. By the 1950s, Nicholson dominated the file market worldwide.
More than 150 years after its founding, the brand remains at the forefront. The unwavering dedication to quality and constant attention to detail instilled by William Thomas Nicholson, embodied in the famous slogan “Twelve perfect files in every dozen,” is still evident in every product sold.
Today, as Crescent Nicholson, the brand is a market leader for manual material removal products from Apex Tool Group, one of the largest hand tool manufacturers in the world. The extensive Crescent Nicholson line of products includes files, rasps, saws, and accessories. Crescent Nicholson manual material removal products are among the more than 2,600 quality hand tool products offered under the Crescent name – products professional tradespeople know they can count on to get the job done right.

These files are SMALL! They fit in the palm of my hand-i have huge hands. (I usually wear XL to 2xl rubber gloves). The tool has grooves to where it's great for sweaty hands. you'll grip it no matter what. If you can't, I'd think you're the issue.

All in a plastic pouch. The pouch is light weight and probably will not go the distance. The files are high quality and I have been very pleased with their performance in my workshop..
