I was never really familiar with the Jonas Brothers back in the day other than the fact that such a group existed, but I did blindly buy Joe's "Fastlove" album a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised at how much I loved it. Even now, I would say it's still one of the best CD's I've bought in the last five years. Naturally my interest was raised once again with Nick's latest solo effort after hearing the lead single "Jealous" on the radio, so I went ahead and bought that album as well. While I wouldn't go as far as to immediately rank it as one of my all time favorites, it's a solid record and one that probably won't be leaving the player for a while.

I won't give a tedious track by track review, but any fan of catchy, uncomplicated pop music should find something to enjoy here as there's quite a bit of variety. Highlights for me include the bouncy "I Want You," the tribal influenced "Wilderness," and the 80's flavored throwback "Teacher," but there really isn't a true dud in the bunch. I was kind of expecting something a little more dance or electronic oriented, which we do get tastes of, for sure, but overall the disc maintains more of a smooth yet upbeat R&B style vibe reminiscent of a lot of mid-90's pop music, sprinkled with other influences throughout. While straightforward enough to be commercially safe and not alienate or put off any segment of listeners, there is still enough going on to keep it fresh and interesting in today's market. As for whether Nick truly is "all grown up" is debatable - this isn't exactly the most profound stuff you'll ever hear, lol - but he does share writing credit on most of the tracks and it's always admirable when artists have a hand in creating the product their names are attached to.

Great album...I'm 36 and can remember how awesome R&B was in the 70s, 80s and 90s; since the 2000s there has been this R&B tinged pop music genre filled by some better known male artists like JT and Bruno Mars, Jesse McCartney. Some of this genre, IMO,including some of JTs work, has missed the mark. I was disappointed by JTs 20/20 Experience. But this album is a wonderful exception. Plainly put- its fantastic.
I love ALL kinds of music but I don't know any Jonas bros songs, but when I soundhounded "Jealous", and saw it was Nick Jonas I was shocked and intrigued. Then I found more cuts from the album online and heard "Chains", "Teacher", "Numb", "Wilderness"...I just had to cop (buy) the album.
He should not be compared to JT too much because IMO vocally he's better. His falsetto is better rounded in the way it hits the ear than JTs. He really doesn't do the falsetto that much throughout the album , except for "Jealous", and I think that was smart. It sounds good, but he's not drowning you with it on every song. His other vocals are very good too.
The music shows youthfulness and maturity simultaneously, like " Push". Each songs is distinct sounding from the next, which is also nice.
A lot of the most played so-called R&B music today disappoints due to lack of real singing and artistry. That said, its an excellent example of what R&B tinged pop should aspire to be. This album will get heavy rotation in my car alongside Daly, Sam Smith, Miguel, and Raheem Devaughn, Amy Winehouse, and the Black Keys, just to name a few.
I usually do not rate, much less so, review music because I usually am not surprised or excited to dissect it like this The fact that I actually took the time to write this is a testament, IMO, to how good the album is. I recommend you buy it.

I bought this on a whim, and I have no regrets! I was never a fan of The Jonas Brothers (couldn't even tell you a song they sang) but this album is great. Reminds me of JT with more of a R&B vibe. Love it!

Nick's debut album reminds me of George Michael's debut album "Faith" from 1987. Just like George, Nick broke free of the chains that held him to his former musical group. As a matter of fact, Nick delicately channels the 80's with "Teacher" and its aged bass line. Nick has always had potential, but this? His vocal performance is virtually flawless and absolutely ecstatic. You can definitely tell that he is all grown up now. I have nothing but respect for this album, and Nick as an artist! I urge everyone to take advantage of this musical tryst.

Words cannot describe this album. Whether you were a fan of the Jonas Brothers or not you will love this album. I bought this CD for myself as well as a gift. Nick Jonas impressed me with his new sound as well as the content of the songs. Very grown up and he sounds great. A must buy!

I am too old to like Nick Jonas!! But I do like his music, I can't help it. He has great music and a wonderful singing voice. Even when I tried to pretend that I didn't like his music, my kids would catch me singing to his songs.

I'm a 50 year old woman who loves Nick Jonas's music. The music is gorgeous and mature. The kind of music that I am used to buying. I stopped buying music a long time ago because it wasn't worth me spending money on it. This cd impresses me.
