From School Library Journal
Grade 3-5 An attractive book with all the hallmarks of a shelf-sitter, this interesting ecology observation book was originally published in Sweden. A little girl does various nature observations and experiments through the seasons in the vicinity of a maple tree; for each season, changes in the trees and plants and bird, mammal, and insect life are described in words and handsome watercolors. Changes have obviously been made for a North American audience, but they have not been done carefully: the American word blueberry is used in the text, but the picture is captioned bilberry ; the illustration of a robin is the smaller European bird, and in the ``Spring'' chapter half a page is devoted to the cuckoo's nesting habits. Aimed at middle graders, this looks like a picture book which may be off-putting for the intended age group, and may not be found for assignments either. Rosanne Cerny, New York Public Library
