When you're ready to quit, Nicorette can help you take charge--by giving you control over your cravings. Use it on a regular schedule to prevent cravings throughout the day--and when an especially tough craving hits, only Nicorette gives you the freedom to chew an extra piece of gum. Nicorette medicated gum is a form of Therapeutic Nicotine, which means it provides nicotine to your system as a temporary aid to help you quit smoking by reducing nicotine withdrawal symptoms.
Nicotine is a stronger addiction than most people realize--and cigarettes are a very efficient nicotine delivery system. Each puff sends nicotine to the brain within 10 seconds, activating areas of the brain that produce feelings of pleasure and reward by raising dopamine levels. Dopamine is the same substance involved in addiction like cocaine and heroin. So we have another puff. And another.

Soon the brain's chemical structure actually changes. It becomes hooked into wanting more and more nicotine to make the effects last. When the brain stops getting the nicotine it's used to, we begin to feel withdrawal cravings--actually the brain craving nicotine.

As this nicotine addiction sets in, the brain links everyday habits with smoking, boosting the role of cigarettes. Normal everyday activities begin to trigger the urge to smoke. Drinking coffee in the morning. Talking on the phone. Work breaks. Driving.

So when you try to quit smoking, you're actually fighting a battle on two fronts: 1) physical--that is, nicotine addiction--and 2) habitual, the activities, moods and events linked with smoking.

Cravings and habits go hand in hand for anyone trying to quit. Nicorette helps you address both.

First, let's talk about cravings. Once you stop smoking, that's when your brain really starts screaming for nicotine. Your withdrawal cravings can actually intensify in the days after you quit. That's where Therapeutic Nicotine--like Nicorette--is proven effective. Nicorette delivers small amounts of nicotine--without the thousands of other toxins and chemicals contained in tobacco smoke--relieving withdrawal cravings.

By helping stop cravings before they start, Nicorette increases your chance of success by allowing you to focus your willpower on changing your smoking habits.

Now to help you change those habits, Nicorette lets you take advantage of an individualized support program from Committed Quitters, an online plan designed to help you quit smoking for good. You can enroll free with the Personal Code from your Nicorette User's Guide. And you'll receive a stop-smoking plan tailored to your specific needs, with plenty of tips to help you along. Using Nicorette with Committed Quitters significantly increases your chances of quitting.

Once you've decided to quit, Nicorette helps you take charge. You use it on a regular schedule throughout the day to help prevent cravings. And if a strong or suddenly provoked craving comes, you can chew an extra piece--as long as you use no more than 24 pieces a day.

Start with the right strength: Nicorette gum comes in two strengths:
  • 4 mg, for people who smoke 25 or more cigarettes a day,
  • 2 mg, for people who smoke fewer than 25 a day.
Get an individualized stop-smoking plan from Committed Quitters: Your plan can help you overcome your unique barriers to quitting smoking--and increase your chances of success. For example, if you're used to having a cigarette with your morning coffee, you'll get specific advice on overcoming that habit and desire. Look for information in your package of Nicorette, or visit CommittedQuitters.com.

Follow the Nicorette 12-week plan: Nicorette is designed to allow your body to adjust to having less nicotine over a 12-week period through a gradual, step-down process. You use fewer and fewer pieces of Nicorette until you no longer need it at all. But remember, it's designed for a 12-week course of therapy. And to improve your chances of quitting successfully, start with at least 9 pieces of Nicorette a day.

Because Nicorette is medicated gum, you don't chew it the same way you chew regular gum. Here's how to use it:
  1. Chew each Nicorette piece very slowly several times.
  2. Stop chewing when you notice a peppery taste, or a slight tingling in your mouth. This usually happens after about one minute or 15 chews, but may vary from person to person.
  3. "Park" the Nicorette piece between your cheek and gum, and leave it there.
  4. When the peppery taste or tingle is almost gone (in about a minute), start to chew a few times slowly again. When the taste or tingle returns, stop again.
  5. "Park" the Nicorette piece again in a different place in your mouth.
  6. Repeat steps 4 to 7 (chew, chew, park) until most of the nicotine is gone from the Nicorette piece (usually happens in about half an hour; the peppery taste or tingle won't return).

Fresh Mint is coated for a delicious burst of flavor.

Fruit Chill is double-coated for intense fruit flavor with a hint of mint. You can change flavors anytime you want.

I thank God for this product. I have been on it for 16 years admittedly, never went off it, thus never had withdrawal. I started out with the patch and the 4 mg Nicorette, got off the patch, but never got off the gum (which you chew until it is semi-soft and then park it, you don't chew it like gum as your gums take in the nicotene and if you chew it you will chew out the nicotene). My health has not suffered in any way and I have no side effects whatsoever, no teeth problems and this literally has saved my life and I never had withdrawal thank to this product. I admit I am addicted to the Nicorette (obviously), but nicotene is not life-threatening any more than caffeine, but unless they stop making this product, I will never had a problem. I don't believe I could have quit smoking (I have emphysema) if I had to quit nicotene altogether. Well, that's my story and it's true. I very highly recommend this product. And if you're healthy and thinking it won't happen to you . . . think again. It will. One day I was fine and the very next day, I couldn't breathe and I still would not have quit if it wasn't for the nicotene patch and the Nicorette. Don't let anyone tell you it is dangerous to be on both the patch and the gum. If you are normal with no medical problems, you can do both, but you should wean off the patch. Nicorette you can take for life. I probably will get flack here, but I am telling the truth. The cancer agents in cigs and the tar are what will kill you, not the nicotene. Good luck to all of you. I am just glad I can still breathe (can't climb stairs well, forget stadium stairs and can't even vacuum the house iwthout getting winded, but you pay for your lifestyle, which I realized too late). I smoked for 45 years and am lucky I don't have cancer at this point. God bless you all and my heart goes out to you.

I attended St. Helena Hospital's smoking cessation program in May. They, along with the Mayo Clinic, support "nicotine replacement therapy" 100%. 14 people from around the U.S. attended this program and not one of us has returned to cigarettes as a result of NRT. Yes, I chew the gum all the time but I no longer am being poisoned by the hundreds of poisonous substances in cigarettes. Thank heavens for Nicorette.

I consider this false advertising. This product was not Nicorette and is inferior to nicorette. It was Rite Aid. Will definitely be hesitant to order on Amazon where there is another seller.

I was a hardcore smoker for many years. 30 cigarettes a day for 30 years. I tried to quit many times but I was too hooked. The patch failed because it was too on or off for me. When I chew a 2 mg Nicorette, I feel like I just smoked a cigarette. At my level of smoking, they say that I should be using 4 mg, but 2 mg is very satisfying for me. 4 mg would be too much. So I gradually replaced my cigarettes with Nicorette. At first Nicorette tastes bad, but as anyone will tell you who has chewed it for a while, you learn to like the taste. I eventually got off cigarettes completely with Nicorette. I haven't had a cigarette in over 10 years!!! The bad news...I am addicted to Nicorette...more addicted than I was to cigarettes...there are many of us out there... But....Nicorette is MUCH safer than cigarettes, no cancer, no COPD, no heart atttacks...so if Nicorette gets me off cigarettes, I'll take that deal, I'll trade a Nicorette addiction for a cigarette addiction. I will live a lot longer, but it will be expensive.

Taste is fine -- I'm not interested in any of the flavored options. It doesn't take long to adapt to how to use it. I couldn't use this alone so I use it in combination with a 7mg patch and chew two pieces of 2mg gum a day. Otherwise I end up getting tired of chewing the gum. The FDA eased its guidelines earlier this year so you can use nicotine replacement therapy for longer than 12 weeks if you need to and you can combine therapies if that works. Just be sure to count how many milligrams a day of nicotine you're getting so you don't overdose.

The 14mg patch was too strong for me, so the combination of the 7mg patch (which gives a steady source of nicotine I don't have to think about) plus this little bit extra is perfect. The Nicoderm patch is the best and it gives as consistent a dose of nicotine as you're going to get, but it still wanes a bit over time. I shower and put on a new patch at night which contributes to some vivid dreams but it's what works for me. I wear the patch 24 hours a day, chew one piece of gum around 2 PM, and the second around 8 PM. If I showered in the morning I would have the first piece of gum around dinner time and the second near bedtime.

I have purchased a 110-piece package of the gum on sale plus a $15 off coupon at the pharmacy. The regular price of the original flavor on Amazon is comparable to that (39.94 ($0.23 / piece) currently) and the Subscribe and Save price is even cheaper. I'll use nicotine for the foreseeable future because I can't seem to do without it. As my doctor said, it's the smoking that kills you. This is cheaper, is saving my life, and I'm happy with the product and the outcome.

I could not have stopped smoking without the help of Nicorette gum. At first it tastes rather strange, but once I got used to it, it helped tremendously with cigarette cravings.
