About Nigel M Sainsbury
Nigel's passion for non-fiction writing started in 2016 when he wrote a chronological diary of his life for his children. Realizing that many of the turning points in his life were centered around motorcycles, he had an epiphany to write his first self-published memoir, 'One Down Four Up; My Bikes My Life'. The success of that book spurred him on to write about other aspects of his life in an honest 'no holds barred' kind of approach in 'The Gifted Amateur'. His critical reflections on his experiences influence his judgment, and he is the first to admit that he is the sum of his own decisions. In his writing, he encourages readers to reflect on their own life and experiences, not as a comparison, more of an endorsement that we are all a sum of our own thoughts and actions. A Welshman by birth and a New Zealander since 2007, Nigel has been slowly transitioning into an American since 2012.

If you understand the meaning of the phrase 'One Down, Four Up', this book has been written with you in mind. If you don't understand the title, this book offers the reader a great learning opportunity to understand the people who ride or just enjoy motorcycles. Nigel's love of motorcycles has been with him since he was able to keep a couple of rotating wheels between his legs and grab some handlebars. His early pushbike experience naturally progressed to mopeds and then onto larger and different types of motorcycles. Nigel explains his choice of bikes, some of the technical and historical details of the models and brands, and the adventures he has had by riding motorcycles on the three continents he has lived. The true-life stories include his numerous hospital sleepovers from his motorcycling mishaps and his reflective thoughts on the impact motorcycling has had on both his physical and mental wellbeing. Even if you don't like motorcycles, this book is a joy to read. It is a light-hearted view on life that uses motorcycles either as a lead into a life story or just as a backdrop to a funny tale.

An intimate and fascinating story of Nigel, a young lad growing up in a small quiet coal-mining village in South Wales. Nigel is drawn towards a military career in the Royal Air Force, but he quickly discovers that his life plans have a habit of changing, some of them in ways he never could have imagined. All his exploits are valuable life lessons and he reflects hard on his learning. These reflections add authenticity to the story that keeps the reader engaged throughout the book. Nigel recognizes that he is the sum of his decisions and is the first to admit that he doesn't always get things right, but he always does his best implying that he is just a 'Gifted Amateur.'
