PreS-Gr 2—The perennial holiday favorite gets a clean, brightly illustrated picture book treatment. The end papers, reminiscent of wrapping paper, let readers know immediately that this will be a traditional take on the classic, and indeed it offers few surprises. The illustrations show that the clatter has awakened the little boy instead of the dad, and while the text indicates St. Nicholas has a pipe clenched in his teeth, it has been removed from his jolly face in the illustration, in a nod to political correctness. For those in need of a fresh version, this would work for group presentations. VERDICT Not essential for most libraries, but one that will please the preschool crowd.—Anne Connor, Los Angeles Public Library

I do find it interesting that there aren't any inside pictures in the description.... The outside of the book leads you to believe you're getting this beautiful, colorful book. False. Black and white - and most of the pictures are indistinguishable due to poor copying.
