who played his birth mother in Curse of the Werewolf. Patrick Allen plays the King's Revenue Collector hunting down pirates. All around great cast reimaging Thorndike's "Dr. Syn." Look fast for uncredited beauty Kate O'Mara in the pub. My Beef: Another anemic commentary by Bruce Hallenbach. His knowledge of all things Hammer is impressive but his delivery is excruciatingly bland. BUT, the other extras, including the mesmerizing Jonathan Rigby piece (author of English Gothic, American Gothic, and Euro Gothic) his knowledge is limitless. There's a piece by frumpy Kim Newman in his red vested clown costume. Newman IS knowledgeable but hard to watch. Then Wayne Kinsey, probably THE most prolific collector of Hammer material and author of several huge and limited edition volumes on Hammer sub-genres, gives us a tour of the Mossman Carriage Museum. Here lie all the horse-drawn original carriages used in Hammer Gothic and many over period films. Delightful! Wayne's books snag quite a fee on 3rd party seller's sites. Then there's a short piece by special effects genius Les Bowie's assistant. It's a beautiful print, sounds great, expensive but pretty worth it (if you don't have the UK versions) and vastly supplemented to Universal's cheapie 8 film Hammer blu-ray pack. Enjoy and caffeine up if you have to listen to that, yawn, commentary. Hackensack takes a break from narrating grade school films like "The Amazing Wonders of Grandpa's Chicken Coop." / JK.
The film looks great with vibrant colors. The acting is good. It has aged well.
