Editorial Reviews

"I love books that make me feel a variety of emotions and feel them intensely. To question the things I thought I believed, to relate to characters for their moments of vulnerability, to see the layers of them as they unfold. I'm positively addicted, consumed, overwhelmed by these characters."--Amazon Reviewer
"This is what Jessica does. She creates a story so compelling that overwhelms you and takes you for the ride of your life. It changes you and what you believe. It shakes you to the core."--Mia's Point of View
"From the first sentence, this book had a slow burn that gradually increased until the ending where it was a raging inferno and it felt like my heart might beat right out of my chest...If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would."--A Risqué Affair Book Blog

This book truly blew my mind... I read the reviews, and what the author's blurb about the book... I guess, something in me, just wasn't registering that ..... OMG, I just can NOT believe Johnny - Lola's boyfriend of 9 years would agree to a man whom finds Lola stunning (if truth be told she was taken by him as well, one reason she wanted to stay away) Lola knew her relationship w/Johnny had been changing and even drifting.. But I still can NOT believe Johnny was ok with giving his girlfriend (whom he "LOVES" to a man for the evening for a million dollars!!) I am just blown away - how could one come back from that???? I have to read book 2!! Oh. My!!

Lola Winters is a waitress and assistant manager of Hey Joe, the has-been of nightlife hot spots in Los Angeles. It’s just not bringing in the clientele like it used to. The owner ready to sell, everyone’s worried about their jobs and the future of the actual bar. Johnny’s always dreamed of owning his own bar and Hey Joe would be perfect. They live from paycheck-to-paycheck and are both tired of living like that and want more for themselves. If they don’t find a way to get it under their ownership, it’ll end up being bought out by someone who’ll turn it into a fancy, douchey lounge bar.

In walks Beau Olivier, Mr. Smooth Operator. He’s out of place in his fine business suit and high roller vibe. Lola and the rest of the crew are intrigued by him, but little do they know, Beau’s going to make them an offer they just can’t refuse. No matter how much they try.

The second he laid eyes on her and saw her feisty personality, Beau knew he had to have her. He wouldn’t let anything get in his way of spending the night with her. Not even her boyfriend. Or her flat out rejection.
He learns of Lola and Johnny’s desire to own Hey Joe, so he proposes a deal in which they’ll get quite a large sum of money to buy the bar and then some, and he’ll get something he desires. The object of his desire? Lola.

She loves her boyfriend and there’s no way she could cheat on him, even if said boyfriend actually knows about it and gives her the okay. Lola’s kidding herself though. She may love Johnny dearly, which is why she’s appalled by this stranger’s proposition, but there’s also a part of her that is undeniably attracted to him and what he says. Which is part of the reason she’s so eager to decline Beau’s offer. She’s afraid of what she’s feeling towards this debonair stranger.

Lola and her boyfriend Johnny have been together nine years. And most days of those nine years, Lola has helped Johnny manage a bar on the Sunset Strip in LA. The bar is starting to lose patrons, which means it’s losing money… which means if someone doesn’t buy it, they’ll have to close.

This bar, Hey Joe, is how Johnny and Lola make a living. Without this bar, they will have to start all over. They were desperate, willing to almost anything to save this bar.

One night, a man in a suit comes into Hey Joe. It’s not their usual customer, but when Beau bets with them on games like darts and pool, they realize he comes from money, and lots of it. They want to make him feel welcome and hope that he’ll keep coming back, and hopefully with friends.

“One night. One million dollars. And that’s my final offer.”

That’s what happens when Beau approaches the couple with an offer of money in exchange for one night with Lola. That money could help them make a living and buy the bar, which is full of history.

This decision isn’t to be taken lightly. It could ruin everything.

Do they take the money? Or do they take their pride and let it all go?

I loved this book! Like I devoured it. This is book one in a three part serial, and my god, I couldn’t get enough!
It’s so well written, the story just sucks you in. And it leaves you wanting to know what happens. The good thing is, these books are supposed to be released within weeks of each other, so if you’re one of those people that like to read it all at once, you won’t have to wait too long!

Beau. Oh, Beau. God, I have some strong feelings for him. I can’t actually decide if he’s a dick or if he’s a good guy. One minute I’m like “YOU’RE HORRIBLE!

He has intense green eyes and thick, dark russet-brown hair. He's tall, handsome [but of course!], polished and charming. 6'3" Beau Olivier [37] is powerful and self-possessed. He's a shrewd businessman in control. And when he see's feisty Lola Winters on the street, his world falls away and he plots to have her.

She has long black hair that nicely compliments her creamy complexion and blue blue eyes. Twentynine year old Lola Winters is a beautiful, strong and confident bar waitress struggling in todays world to make ends meet. She's sassy, feisty and stubborn. She's not just smart, she's intelligent. She and her boyfriend, Johnny, love each other and strive for a better life.

I loved this first installment of this story. Character descriptions are strong and quickly laid out, giving me a perfect visual. I connected to each of these characters. The plot was superb. The dilemma that Johnny and Lola face is very real. It takes a stranger making an outrageous offer to open Lola's eyes and make her realize the truth of her reality...that the possibility of remaining in the same financial and physical circumstances without the hope of more in life, was a very real probability.

This first installment reminded me of two movies..."Indecent Proposal" with a smidgen of "Pretty Woman" mixed in. Brilliant plot. Brilliant dialogue mixed with just enough narration. I'd gladly refer my friends to this story. Well done Ms. Hawkins.
