One of the RARE, and I mean RARE concert videos of The Boomtown Rats. The video is quite top-notch, and the audio is excellent, in my opinion. I inly wish there were more videos of these guys out there.

Way back in February 1985 I was on one end of the front row of the audience in the Dominion Theatre, Tottenham Court Road, London for a concert by The Boomtown Rats. At the start Bob Geldof apologised for the camera crew on stage. This film is the result. It has taken me nearly 30 years to finally get to see it and it was worth the wait as the memories came flooding back.

The Boomtown Rats were a very good live band, often performing their songs better than the studio versions and Bob is certainly a charismatic performer. This is real live music as it should be with no miming or pre-recorded backing tracks like too many so-called concerts today. Anybody who has forgotten the 'Rats' should watch this to be reminded of just how good they were. Most of their hits are performed enthusiastically including the 2 number 1's.

My only criticism is that it is too short. Some of the concert has been cut, including almost all of Bob's between songs chat (Maybe this was to get the age recommendation down, back in the '80s, by losing the swearing that he is known for) and the final encore which was 'Do they know it's Christmas'. Also I would have liked some audience shots, if only because I would have liked to see myself as I was then, but that is a very minor criticism, and more of a personal nature, so not really relevant.

Sadly this was to be their final tour with Live Aid, later the same year, their final performance. This does not detract from the quality of the show. Great stuff!

I'm glad the boomtown rats never 'went big', going big all it does is ruin you, like it did U2, -bono is majority to blame for that, a lot of bands that got big didn't know when to hang it up and the result is not good, bill wyman is out of the stones after like a billion years with them, why, I still don't know. Look at the embarrassment of what is 'van halen'........and on it goes.............the rats WERE and ARE 'BIG', anyone with a conscience and common sense knows this, it goes without saying, for the majority of people 'OUT THERE' and today's 'peabots', and these people have always been the majority, they will continue to be 'normal'...............
