This is the third installment and we deal with the broody sexy female protecting Phoenix Wing Slayer Hunter. He is one of the two bad boys in the group and is basically sexy as all hell. After losing his mother to suicide years ago, he makes it his personal mission to protect and save everyone he can. Two months ago, he started getting tormented by singing in his head. Singing only he could hear. Finally the singing got so loud he nearly lost a fight and his life and finally decided to track down who this singer is.
Ailish Donovan is a blind witch who was tricked into hand fasting with a demon when she was only 16 by her own mother. She has come back to her hometown after running away in order to break the hand fast or at least kill her mother and demon witch coven to right her wrong so the Ancestors will hopefully accept her and not let her live her afterlife alone in the dark. She is a siren who uses her voice which can enhance all magic, both earth and demon. A rare and powerful talent, the demon who she is hand fasted to constantly tries to seduce her and is she submits she becomes a demon witch and the demon, Asmodeus, gets control of her power. When she starts singing, a power she fears using, she ultimately call Phoenix to her and surprise surprise they are soul mirrors. However, there happily ever after will have to wait because if Ailish does not find a way to break her hand fast to the demon, she dies. Together they have to fight and find a way to break the hand fast in order to save Ailish’s life.
I absolutely loved these two together. They were literally perfect. Ailish was not the weak willed blind person you might think she is. In fact, she was a professional kick boxer. She uses her magic to feel her way around places so although she is blind, she can figure things out on her own. She has constantly tried asking earth witches for help but as soon as they hear of the hand fast they ignore her and refuse. On her own since she was 16 she has learned to never rely on anyone, but when Phoenix comes to her…she just might start believing.
Phoenix is my second favorite hunter and is so pissed at first that Ailish would bind herself to a demon. He can’t possibly believe he is soul mirrored to a demon witch. When he finds out the truth he begins to fall, and fall hard. He doesn’t treat her as a fragile helpless blind person, he treats her as an equal. He helps her by saying where something might be but it is not in the derogatory sense or even demeaning. He is merely pointing it out because she may or may not know. I also loved how much he loved Ailish. I know, corny…, but it’s true. You could see to the depths of his love for her and this book just had a whole bunch of feel good feelings throughout it that I couldn’t help but smile.
And then the ending…I won’t spoil. You must read on your own. But let’s just say I actually shed a tear. Don’t get me wrong this was an HEA book, but just the way the ending happened and how it did was so touching and full of love…I already want to go back and reread this book. ‘
Yep. I loved this book.
Ailish... My heart hurt for this character. She suffered her entire young life. And, at the ripe old age of twenty-three, eleven months, and two weeks she came home to die. Powerful strength of character in this heroine.
Phoenix... I came to understand this character. And, Phoenix this guilt ridden man, well, love ennobled him. Very swoon worthy.
The moral... Good always wins over evil.
This story held me in suspense waiting for the outcome of two things. Of course I knew there would be a happily ever after, but how that would play out held me tight. At one point I found myself saying "Come on Phoenix, what would Chuck Norris do?" Didn't these hunters know about bazooka's?.... LOL....
In all three books all the men have been self-sacrificing loving alphas, but only Sutton has captured my heart so far.
The ending in this story was an emotional ride, making it an excellent read! Now, on to book 4.
