Note: this 1993 book has a different ending than the recent TV movie, but is otherwise the same thriller.
This is Le Carre's best work since the days of Smiley and the Circus.I somehow missed it, perhaps discouraged by some of Le Carre's other post-Smiley work, when it came out in 1993. I am awfully happy to have found it now. .
in terrible shape to his new life with Jed. I would have liked more detail there. And what happens to Roper? Other than that, the book
is a brilliant depiction of the arms trade in an era like today, with many interesting characters, and top notch writing. A master writing
with all his powers intact....John le Carre at his best!
