Silhouette Nocturne # 25 ~ Oct 2007
Dark Enchantments Book # 3 of 4
Lady Dawn Maybridge has played second fiddle to her twin sister Aurora all her life and she's tired of never measuring up in her father's eyes. So when a devilishly handsome demon approaches her with a bargain that will win her the Demon Stone, a diamond that her father has been searching for all his life, Dawn is sorely tempted to accept. Galin McManus is a vengence demon masquerading as an incubus, a lust demon. He uses their sexual chemistry against Dawn's formidable defenses, and barters the Demon Stone for five nights in his bed. Dawn is reluctant but she can't help her overpowering desire for Galin, and when their nights of passion begin she's afraid of losing more than just her soul to the demon, she's afraid she'll lose her heart. Gavin too becomes confused by the bond that continues to grow stronger between them. Can it be possible that he is coming to have feelings for her? But what will happen when Dawn discovers his true purpose, that he's been summoned to enact vengence; vengence on those that have crossed her, which include her sister Aurora.
Wow! I was wondering how Ms. Bruhns was going to make a hero out of demon. While Galin comes on the scene as holding mistaken beliefs, once he learns from Dawn the true nature of humans, he regrets his past. As in all great romances, the heroine teaches the hero that he is indeed a hero and very much capable of feeling intense love. Galin makes a wonderful hero; his protective instincts and desire to ease her pain make him more human than he'd ever thought possible. Dawn is strong but she has to overcome her vulnerabilities when it comes to pleasing her father and sister. Their approval means a lot to Dawn, even though she behaves as if it doesn't. I loved this story. Not only for the intrigue introduced about the dark realm, but for the growth both Galin and Dawn experience as their bond grows stronger. This one's a pager turner and have the fan handy as the love scenes scorch most of those pages!
Familiar Stranger by Michele Hauf -Silhouette Nocturne # 21 - August 2007
Rising Darkness by Cynthia Cooke - Silhouette Nocturne # 23 ~ Sept 2007
Night Mischief by Nina Bruhns - Silhouette Nocturne # 25 ~ Oct 2007
Saving Destiny by Pat White - Silhouette Nocturne #27 - Nov 2007
Galen McManus had something that Dawn wanted, and he was going to get her to make a deal with the devil to get it. Okay not the devil but a daemon, and he was going to get something in exchange. Galen had The Demon Stone which had been stolen from her family centuries ago, at the family estate, St. Yve Manor. Dawn's father had been looking for the Demon Stone all of his lifel if Dawn could give it back to him it would put her in good stand and give her a one up on Aurora. She would do anything for it. What would Galen's price be?
When Galen told Dawn his price would be her. For five nights he wanted to come to her and be in her bed and her body. Dawn didn't know what to say, could she do that? Yes, she wanted to make her father happy but..... To let Galen come to her at night she would have to let him kiss her and leave a little of his demon essence in her to create a bond so he could come to her at night. However if he left too much she would become a demon's familiar, then he could bend her completely to his will if he chose. She would have to be careful. But she would have what her father wanted more than anything.
Night Mischief is a new chapter for the multi-talented author Nina Bruhns. If you have already read some of Ms. Bruhns's work you know she is a great suspense author, and she has given us a few great ghost stories as well. Now she is giving us a paranormal to die for. We are given a great story as well as the Bruhns hot spice scenes that we have all come to love. If you have not read Nina Bruhns before, and you love paranormal, I suggest you grab a copy and find out what Night Mischief you can get into.
Initially Galen is drawn to Cadre member and demon-hunter Dawn, through an inadvertent summoning spell strengthened by her secret feelings of jealousy and her dark desire for vengeance. Otherworldly and sensuous, dark gorgeous Galen, bespells Dawn and makes her an offer she can't resist. Ultimately Both Galen and Dawn get more than they bargained for.
Although I have enjoyed many of the Nocturnes, Night Mischief was truly a wonderful surprise. I was expecting a light paranormal romance, but this was so much more, mainly because the Galen and Dawn were so well fleshed out. And since the author, Nina Bruhn, allows us to view both Galen's and Dawn's inner most thoughts, we get an intimate view into their forbidden relationship as it develops from the sizzling initial attraction, into a deep and powerful connection that inspires demon Galen to sacrifice everything for the women he loves.
Night Mischief is the third book in the Dark Enchantment collaboration. So far all the books in the series have been good, but Night Mischief exceeded all my expectations. It was a wonderful romantic read and it isn't necessary to read the others to get full enjoyment from this one.
