I can't wait to see which Nightrider finds his love next and what trouble they'll find together.
Hollywood said his parents were a mated pair and that after his dad died his mom couldn't really function or be there for him because that's how deeply a moonstruck mating affected you. It's all consuming and overwhelming. NOT! His bond was underwhelming in my opinion.
Lainey was unsure about the whole wolf mate thing and the MC thing before all the trouble at the end. It made no sense how easily she reversed gears and changed her mind. None whatsoever and there was no reason for her to forgive and forget their attitudes and actions to her. It makes me so angry. No apologies. They do not have her back and she cannot trust them. She'd best remember that.
One side of their mouth says they don't hurt or punish innocent children and the other admits that they left her little brothers to be victimized and that they know the twins were kidnapped but hours go by and no one makes a move to help and rescue them. Unbelievable.
This group of men/wolves are not worthy of love or affection. I found them despicable from the start when one of them crushed her wrist. If she hadn't caught Hollywod's eye it seems no one would have cared about that. MC books do have violence but what works is when it's directed away from the women and children and we get a glimpse of protectiveness from the badass brothers and see some vulnerability because they are good guys deep down inside. Didn't happen in this book.
I like to able to trust the rules laid down in these make believe books so the story makes sense but it felt like this author was free and easy with that so she could twist us this way and that to whip up our emotions. Wolves mate for life. Wolves care for friends and family. The mate bond is strong and magical. She shows us none of this after she states them as facts. They can mind speak but Hollywood never does that while trying to get to the bottom of the mystery. Convenient to the author's agenda but makes no sense. Did they protect her and her young brothers during their investigation? No. And the biggest disappointment was that Hollywood let them. Ultimate betrayal, no coming back from that right there.
I read the previous book but don't remember much other than the plot from the blurb. I read the very first short story in this series yesterday. Once again the writer states something and turns around and makes it a lie. She says that when moonstruck the male is crazy and can't help themselves until mated and bonded. They need their mate desperately. However that male went 15 years. And she says that wolves are horny as heck so there's a lovely romantic idea in our head. He loves her to distraction but he's banging anyone and everyone else for 15 years until they get back together. That does nothing to promote their romance and relationship. Ugh, the inconsistencies in her world building!
I had hoped to have found a new series but when it comes to Night Moves I'm moving on. I read romances for satisfaction and to feel good about the HEA but I didn't find it with this author. Disappointing.
