But somehow I just could not escape the appeal that it held for me; there was just something about it that wouldn't let go. So when the opportunity arose I decided I was going to be brave.
I am so very glad that I was because, yes, while this story left me with tears streaming down my face, the story and the characters were pure, unadulterated and heady MAGIC! And, even now, a few days later, I can still feel the emotional pull of Max and Richard's short but amazing story. I also expect that that effect will last for awhile.
Sue Brown, who is a new-to-me author, is now not only on my `To Look For' list but also my `To Be Bought' list... and for those of you in the know, that's TLF and TBB... which join TBR (to be read). Whatever; Ms. Brown now has a book in my TBR and anything by her that I see I will be snapping up as soon as possible!
Knowing what we know, from the very beginning I shouldn't have felt any liking for Richard Armitage at all, but dang it, the man is sweet and...just so darned likable.
It's easy to see why Max would fall in love with him, but anymore I will not say because truly discovering for yourself how this story goes is more than worth the bittersweet element.
Not only did I really, really like Richard, but I fell in love with Max--and I dearly hope that we will see more of him. I know EXACTLY what would happen. And seriously? That never happens. I'm just not someone who can write--or at least imagine--a different ending. But there's something about Max that just calls out to me.
And if even we never are treated to a happy ending for Max, well I'm still hopeful that he will find `the one'. He's far too wonderful a man to be alone and yes, he does give his heart easily, even when he *knows* that there's no hope. But that just shows what a loving heart he as.
If it sounds as though I was left feeling slightly infatuated with Max? Well, yes I was and, frankly, I dare anyone to read his story and not be just as affected.
And to Sue Brown I say, Brava! You made a believer out of me and for that I'm very grateful.
This novella is a part of Dreamspinner Bittersweet dreams line, where they do not promise traditional happy ending or any happy ending really. I was afraid that it has to end with death, so I was planning on completely avoiding these titles, but apparently not all of them do, at the end guys simply do not stay together.
One of the guys Robert is an actor, he is getting married in a few days in London, so he is staying in the hotel for few days waiting for the rest of his bridal party to arrive and falls for night porter Max, who apparently had similar heartbreaks in the past. Unfortunately Max falls for Robert again and it is very sweet, unfortunately Robert is of course "not gay", after having hot sex with Max and still going to get married at the end.
AAAAAAAAA. No, the story is well written and more realistic than many stories in this genre, but talk about liking the book and hating the character, that would be this one.
Max always seems to fall for the wrong guy. Robert is about to get married but he comes on to Max and Max is unable to resist even though he knows it won’t end well for him.
A very enjoyable M/M story.
He has a habit of hooking up with guests who are staying at the hotel, guests who are definitely on a path that doesn't involve Max for anymore than a night.Enter Robert, who also falls into this category, but somehow manages to capture Max's heart. A couple of days together and both know they have something special.
As the blurb says, Robert is actually at the hotel to prepare for his wedding, so this might not sit easy with some readers due to the element of infidelity but this really didn't bother me due to the specific situation with Robert and his fiance Evie.
Be prepared, there isn't a happy ending! Thank goodness a quick emergency visit to Amazon soon rectified the situation and I had immediate access to the sequel Light of Day
