I really enjoy this series; and while I find it a bit darker and more series than the Otherworld series, there is also a superficial element to it. However, it does not have a great impact on the story and can be bypassed or disregarded easily.
I loved the story progression and the feeling of unraveling a great, dangerous mystery; in addition to the deep sense of danger slithering around every corner. This was definitely my most favored book of the series so far.
For the series fans, this book is a must read. There is a lot that happens in this installment that will have considerable influence and consequences on future books.
I highly recommend this book to fellow dark urban fantasy readers and look forward to the next book Night Vision due out July 2013.
I also recommend:
Once Burned (Night Prince, Book 1)
Pleasure Unbound (Demonica, Book 1)
Shadow's Fall (A Novel of the Shadow World)
Bloodstone (A Deadtown Novel)
Lover Reborn (Black Dagger Brotherhood)
Cicely is back trying to protect her friends and loved ones as she settles the score with Myst, who wants nothing more than to end her life. This tale culminates the battle for Summer vs. Winter as everyone lays their lives on the line to protect their town.
Ms. Galenorn's tales are deep and rich with world building. Her characters are unique and conflicted. They aren't white or black but shades of gray. Cicely is in love with one man but is turned on by another. She wants to do what is right but her conscience holds her back.
Fans of Ms. Galenorn's Otherworld series will love this book.
*Spoiler Alert* - Once again, Myst gets away at the end. I'm not sure how much longer this series could go. This would have been a good book to end on and tie everything up. Cicely is so powerful by the end that she is almost god-like.
I bought this from Amazon and it was a little over priced for an ebook but I know the publisher sets this and the author has no choice. BUT for my $8 I would expect to at least get a digital copy of the COVER ART. For some reason mine did not include the cover. The title page is the first page. These are my complaints. It is still very enjoyable.
