Purchase options and add-ons
If the Night Stalker is watching, you're already dead...
In the dead of a swelteringly hot summer's night, Detective Erika Foster is called to a murder scene. The victim, a doctor, is found suffocated in bed. His wrists are bound and his eyes bulging through a clear plastic bag tied tight over his head.
A few days later, another victim is found dead, in exactly the same circumstances. As Erika and her team start digging deeper, they discover a calculated serial killer - stalking their victims before choosing the right moment to strike.
The victims are all single men, with very private lives. Why are their pasts shrouded in secrecy? And what links them to the killer?
As a heat wave descends upon London, Erika will do everything to stop the Night Stalker before the body count rises, even if it means risking her job. But the victims might not be the only ones being watched... Erika's own life could be on the line.
The global bestselling author of The Girl in the Ice is back with a heart-racing, electrifying thriller. If you love Angela Marsons, Rachel Abbott and Peter James, you'll be hooked on Robert Bryndza.

About the author

Robert Bryndza is an international bestselling author, best known for his page-turning crime and thriller novels, which have sold over five million copies.
His crime debut, The Girl in the Ice was released in February 2016, introducing Detective Chief Inspector Erika Foster. Within five months it sold one million copies, reaching number one in the Amazon UK, USA and Australian charts. To date, The Girl in the Ice has sold over 1.5 million copies in the English language and has been sold into translation in 29 countries. It was nominated for the Goodreads Choice Award for Mystery & Thriller (2016), the Grand prix des lectrices de Elle in France (2018), and it won two reader voted awards, The Thrillzone Awards best debut thriller in The Netherlands (2018) and The Dead Good Papercut Award for best page turner at the Harrogate Crime Festival (2016).
Robert has released a further five novels in the Erika Foster series, The Night Stalker, Dark Water, Last Breath, Cold Blood and Deadly Secrets, all of which have been global bestsellers, and in 2017 Last Breath was a Goodreads Choice Award nominee for Mystery and Thriller. Fatal Witness, the seventh Erika Foster novel, has just been published.
Most recently, Robert created a new crime thriller series based around the central character Kate Marshall, a police officer turned private detective. The first book, Nine Elms, was an Amazon USA #1 bestseller and an Amazon UK top five bestseller, and the series has been sold into translation in 18 countries. The second book in the series is the global bestselling, Shadow Sands and the third book, Darkness Falls.
Robert was born in Lowestoft, on the east coast of England. He studied at Aberystwyth University, and the Guildford School of Acting, and was an actor for several years, but didn’t find success until he took a play he’d written to the Edinburgh Festival. This led to the decision to change career and start writing. He self-published a bestselling series of romantic comedy novels, before switching to writing crime. Robert lives with his husband in Slovakia, and is lucky enough to write full-time.

Bryndza is a gifted author pouring his very best into his books. Erika Foster is a heroine who moves us almost to tears in this book because she recognises how damaged she is - and in THE NIGHT STALKER the serial killer Erika chases calls her out on how much she holds onto the past. It gets Shakespearean, which is riveting without being heavy handed or melodramatic!
In police procedures, the detective might be a flawed anti-hero, but with Erika we have a seriously self-sabotaging maverick and the fact that she's a woman makes her all the more interesting. She's like the fantastic detective in The Killing Danish TV series. If some readers find her grief to be repetitive then isn't that saying something about how we need to understand people MORE not less? Bryndza isn't afraid to go into the dark corners of the human heart. I mean, he quotes Macbeth in the epigraph! We KNOW this is going to break taboos with that flag.
What I loved was the heart-racing cliffhangers to each chapter that kept me turning pages... how we get into each character's innermost fears and weaknesses... how we build up to unpredictable twists that make perfect sense... how everyone is a suspect and everyone is put through the wringer. That's what makes Bryndza's books great fiction.
It's also so hard to write book 2 after a phenomenally successful book 1 and I think Bryndza really nailed it here. He gave us a very different adversary, extended the personal stories for the main detective characters, gave us a different slice of London's multi-layered society, gave us a heatwave instead of the cold of January. He didn't make anything easy for Erika. I've started DARK WATER and already can see he takes is in a different direction there and I can't wait to keep reading.
Huge fan of Bryndza!!! Keep writing - I don't know how you do it but please keep doing it.
As with the first book, Erika continues to be a diligent investigator who is willing to go outside protocol and defy orders from her chain of command to solve these homicides. She is still keeping people at arm’s length, not allowing anyone to get too close, but there is a glimmer that she is open to friendships so I’m hoping this is explored more in the next book.
Robert Bryndza writes a tense story that keeps the reader in high anticipation. The identity of the killer is revealed fairly early, which I actually enjoyed, so the intense anticipation I was experiencing was from how the killer would be caught and what the body count would climb to. Mr. Bryndza’s research is so well executed, one can’t help but wonder if he has a background in law enforcement. The story flows very smoothly in spite of the subject matter. Be warned, readers, as the homicides are described in specific detail and are a bit disturbing.
The audio narration, performed by Jan Cramer, was also excellent. Her performance moves the story forward with the right amount of emotions to make the actions of the characters logical and believable.
My Final Verdict: If you have yet to read this series, I must encourage you to not waste any further time. I highly recommend this story to fans of mysteries, thrillers and police procedurals. Though the topic is quite graphic, fans of this genre will appreciate the attention to detail and the well-researched subject matter.
This is a brilliant sequel to The Girl In The Ice. Gripping and compelling reading, it hits the ground running and doesn't stop. Who the Night Stalker is and why the victims are selected does not fit the usual profile of the serial killer so well known to crime fiction. Mr Brynzda has invented a serial killer we can feel some sympathy for, despite the creepiness of this killer stalking and then lying in wait for the selected victims to come home.
It was good to get to know DCI Foster better in this novel. Still grieving the death of her husband mark two years ago in a failed police operation led by her, she is still racked with guilt and loneliness. But she is a strong, dogged woman who will take risks and go against her Chief Super to find the killer. Her new team in London are warming to her and it was good to see their personalities develop more in this second novel of the series. Can't wait for the next instalment of this brilliant, well written series!

I applaud Robert Bryndza for putting this all together in a fluid, involving narrative; the resolutions were not altogether surprising, not they were intended to be. You spot the "who" as the narrative progresses and still more questions unfold.
I look forward to seeing more of his work. Totally checking the whole Erica Foster series.
Avventure dure, ma coinvolgenti, un po' inglesi le abitudini dei personaggi descritti.
Fate caso che arriva in inglese, ma è una bella prosa piacevole da leggere.
