On a sweltering hot summer night the Night Stalker is watching. Watching a man from inside his house. Watching him heat a meal, shower, drink a glass of red wine and then stagger off to bed. The man is later found dead, tied to his bed and asphixyated by a plastic bag. When a second victim is found in similar circumstances a few days later DCI Erika Foster knows she has a serial killer on her hands.

This is a brilliant sequel to The Girl In The Ice. Gripping and compelling reading, it hits the ground running and doesn't stop. Who the Night Stalker is and why the victims are selected does not fit the usual profile of the serial killer so well known to crime fiction. Mr Brynzda has invented a serial killer we can feel some sympathy for, despite the creepiness of this killer stalking and then lying in wait for the selected victims to come home.

It was good to get to know DCI Foster better in this novel. Still grieving the death of her husband mark two years ago in a failed police operation led by her, she is still racked with guilt and loneliness. But she is a strong, dogged woman who will take risks and go against her Chief Super to find the killer. Her new team in London are warming to her and it was good to see their personalities develop more in this second novel of the series. Can't wait for the next instalment of this brilliant, well written series!

Detective Erika Foster has been called in to investigate the murder of a prominent doctor. The doctor was found in his bed with his wrists bound and a clear plastic bag tied over his head. As Erika and her team are just beginning the investigation into the first murder another victim is found killed in exactly the same manor.

As the suspects start to pile up Erika and her team find themselves in a race to stop a serial killer before the body count rises. The victims are all single men, with very private lives with secrets of their own. Erika and her team need to find the link that connects all of these victims before it’s too late.

The Night Stalker is the second book in the DCI Erika Forster series by Robert Bryndza. This one could be read as a standalone but the first book in the series, The Girl in the Ice, made me a huge fan of Erika and her tough as nails, do whatever it takes to solve her case style.

With numerous twists and turns as the leads are followed and our suspects pile up this is one of those definite page turners as we follow the clues along with the detectives. I think any fans of a good police procedural will become completely engaged in this series featuring a gritty and determined strong female lead.

Overall, another great edition in this series, definitely would recommend.

I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love these books with Erika Foster as the detective, she is a great character. Now there is more characters in this book that I really enjoy, too. I really like Isaac, he adds alot to the story. If anyone likes serial killer thrillers, I am sure they would enjoy this book.

I'm apparently reading Bryznda's books in reverse order and I will definitely read his first. Detective Foster is easy to like, perhaps because she reminds us of all the other good detectives in good fiction: unconventional, successful, and under-appreciated by her by-the-book superiors. In the meantime, the readers are treated to a good yarn. Can't wait for the next one.
Apparently the author takes suggestions about Erica's smoking habits; how about she stops smoking completely?.....it's a disgusting habit and detracts (IMHO) from her likability.

This author has great skill in making his characters come to life. My emotions were moved repeatedly. The injustices Erika suffers by superiors who don't recognize and appreciate her skills made me angry. The evil personified in the name of revenge can't be separated from the tragedy of the life which hatched it. The Girl in the Ice was also terrific. Write fast Mr. Bryndza, we are waiting.

Can't get enough of Erika Foster, DCI. Foster is compelling in the way she solves the crimes and the fact she is neither a raving beauty or the smartest genius around make her real. She is smart enough though and through hard work and a clever, thorough thought process you know she will solve the crime. You would not want her on your trail. The premise of this book uses a device for suicide I had never heard of so I researched it and it is real. (Not that I intend to use it.) The method of dispatch from this earth is rather shocking and likely the most painless I have ever heard of, which is why the use of the device as an instrument of murder is so deliciously devious and nasty. You will enjoy this book, but understand it uses British English, which for some American readers is a complaint. Personally, this American likes British English a lot.

I first read The girl in the ice and now read The night stalker.
I LOVED both books. This author is amazing. I Love Detective Erika Foster.
Both books I could not put down. I am 77 years old and have read over a thousand books and this author with this new Detective series is one of the best I have ever read.
I thought Joe Nesbo was good with his Harry Hole books, but Robert Bryndza is the best.
