After the successful publication and reception of my Middle Grade/YA series Jack Templar Monster Hunter in 2012, I returned to a genre I've always loved...horror. While Jack Templar was my way of connecting with my reluctant reader sons and helping them find a love for books, Night Chill was my reconnection with a type of story I always loved. Something creepy, not too gory, but enough to make you lock the doors and check the closet for strangers. Stephen King and Dean Koontz were the masters of the genre and I loved (and love) their books. I never expected that Night Chill would find the audience it did. One of my favorite screenshots is the book rankings on Amazon from January 5th, 2014. It shows Night Chill at #4, sandwiched among Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, Under The Dome and Dean Koontz's Innocence. Pretty heady stuff. Night Terror is my return to this genre and an exploration of the characters I've come to love ten years after the events of the Night Chill. A worthy sequel to Night Chill

I debated giving this book 4 stars due to one problem I had with it, but since I enjoyed the book so much and really find Jeff Gunhus' writing to be up there with the best of the horror writers, I decided to give it 5 stars. Oddly, the plot line reminded me a bit of the King book Doctor Sleep, which was a sequel to The Shining, and also involved an evil group going after someone with psychic powers, carried over from the previous book. I wonder if Mr. Gunhus was at all influenced by King's book. Nevertheless, it is a powerful book, in its own right and well worth reading by horror fans. It has just the right amount of blood and gore, excellent pacing, and terrific characters, especially Joseph Lonetree and the evil Mama D. (not to mention Sarah, the main character). It was a worthy sequel, and this from someone that doesn't care for sequels. I loved Stephen King's The Shining, but was not that taken with Doctor Sleep. This book never had me bored and had me eager to get back to it whenever I could. I read one reviewer's take that you wouldn't understand this if you hadn't read the first book. I do agree that reading the first book is very helpful. In fact, I had forgotten some of the first book, and since I had only borrowed it from the Amazon library, I couldn't go back to check some things. So it is helpful to have read the first book, and even more if you had just read it, or own it to go back to. On the other hand, the author does make many references to the events in the first book, so it might be possible to read this on its own. My only problem with the book was the ending. Not the final ending, which seemed to leave room for yet another sequel, but rather the climactic confrontation (I won't go into detail, as not to spoil anything). I found it a bit over the top and hard to suspend disbelief (even for horror fans). A bit too confusing with the out-of-body brain traveling. But I enjoyed the book so much, that I let that go. I still prefer the first book and strongly recommend that you read Night Chill. It is one of my favorites. But this is a worthy sequel and I think I've rambled enough, so go read both of these - NOW! (LOL)

I loved everything about this book from the moment it started with my favorite characters of Lone Tree and Sorenson. Knowing that the story hadn't ended with nightchill this is a great pick up from where it left off 10 years later. The story keeps moving from the moment you pick it up it had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn't wait to finish it. Stephen King is my favorite author but these stories are on the top of my list. Thank you for these stories I will look forward to reading more from Jeff Gunhus.

Reminiscent of Stephen King's _Dr. Sleep_, this sequel to _Night Chill_ is a worthy addition to the story. _Night Terror_ returns us to the lives of the Tremont family. It's been ten years since the events in the caves beneath Prescott City. Sarah Tremont has grown up, and her powers have grown exponentially. Her parents, unaware of those psychic powers, learn from Joseph Lonetree and his pal Sorenson that Sarah has been targeted for death from a group of sadistic child killers who wish to take those powers for themselves.

While the previous novel was good, this sequel pulls out all the stops. Jeff Gunhus continues to create multi-dimensional characters who are real, action sequences that are exciting, and dialogue that rings true. While there are a few loose ends that I would have liked to see wrapped up, it in no way detracts from the story. And the ending, while satisfying, leaves open the possibility of a third book. That's a win, and the book is a winner.

It is ten years later and the local newspaper marks the anniversary with a memorial article of those lost in what the town views as a simple cave in. Not only are emotions and memories stirred up within the family of those lost and affected by what really happened in the underground caves, but we find that an evil paranormal entity has just been waiting for Sarah to grow stronger and is now stirring as well.

This is an excellent follow up to Gunhus's Night Chill book. It is just as eerie, chilling, and even harder to put down - if possible - than the first book in this series. I highly recommend this series to all readers who enjoy things that go bump in the night, especially of the paranormal variety, but I suggest that you may want to turn on some extra lights if reading it at night!

Night Terror was very good, much better than the first book, Night Chill. In Night Terror, the reader at least has some idea of what is happening. The Tremonts' daughter Sarah is a teenager now and has awesome mental powers, which she has hidden from her family. When there's another threat against her from the flesh-eating monsters who prey on kids with these kind of powers, she is more than prepared to meet it, but somewhat afraid of those powers at the same time. Characters from the first book are all there, except Sarah's older sister Becky who is away at boarding school and really doesn't appear at all until the end. Night Terror has a well-developed plot that moves along at a good pace and a surprise ending. I highly recommend this book.

I think, if you followed this series from the biginning then you might enjoy it. I did not. To me, theree are too many references to the first book to make it a stand alone novel and part of a series. That’s fine of course, it’s what you’d expect but, I don’t think I’d have liked it much anyway though there’s plenty of gore and blood, not even a bad plot I suppose. Kind of Dan Brownesque after a fashion but the characters are just too perfect, too pat as it were. It gives the reader the feeling that the author is just writing about a job he used to do but with more horror so his main characters have to be utterly faultless even as they are supposed to have ‘said’ most things thereby doing so without expression which might mean their speech could have been more varied and words such as ‘explained’ or ‘enquiired’ ‘affirmed’ even might have been usee instead of the bland ubiquitous ‘said’ or am i just behind the times?

For me it was like a cross between Dr Sleep (King is my favourite author) and the fight between Harry Potter and Voldemort. Bizarrely it works in a slightly different way. If you like these books give it a go a new twist on a similar story.
