Too Soft for Me & I Wonder About Chemicals
on June 16, 2016
Six inches should be sufficient but the " High-density Base Support Foam" isn't all that dense. If it were, other reviewers wouldn't be complaining about feeling the slats under the mattress or having to use this as a topper. The mattress does have a top layer of memory foam and that would be sufficient to give adequate cushioning if the bottom layer were really dense. Also the memory foam isn't of the gel variety, so the mattress sleeps hotter than I like.
"Biofoam replaces some of the traditional petroleum with natural plant oil, and includes natural green tea extract and all natural active charcoal to help absorb moisture, eliminate odors, and keep your mattress fresh." Although that sounds 'natural' the mattress still stinks. I'm not sure what is outgassing but I wouldn't sleep on it for at least a few days after taking it out of the bag. Perhaps I should have looked to see if at least the cloth material meets the Okeo-Tex Standard 100, which sets limits for harmful chemicals like flame retardants and dyes prone to trigger allergies and asthma. I don't see Zinus claiming such certification.
On the plus side, the mattress has a removable cover for washing and the price point is good.
