This is a wonderful album, one that I loved when it came out back in the 1970s (yeah, I had it on 8-track tape!) and still retains its power and magical vibe today. The only reason that I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 stars is the horribly shoddy packaging. It's nice that this reissue is being sold for such a low price, but basically you are getting nothing more than a CD-R. The CD contains no booklet, no liner notes, and not even a list of musicians who play on the album. The only songwriter credits are listed on the actual CD, but that doesn't even include song times.
Anyway, as to the music, that's the most important thing and these songs still sparkle and shine. Of course you have the big hits "Wildfire" and my personal favorite "Carolina in the Pines" (incredible banjo picking!), but every song on here is delightful. Murphey's blend of folk, country, and pop is masterful. To my ears, this was the best album that he ever recorded. A definite classic, but one that deserves a much better reissue treatment.
