This story is about lost love & hope. Before Calisto became a Night Walker he was a Catholic priest named Gregorio who came to the new world to bring God to the “godless” heathens. He met & fell in love with Tala. Being the good Catholic that he was he went to his friend & priest to confess & tell him he was leaving the church for Tala. But there is no HEA for Gregorio & Tala. Tala is murdered & Gregorio goes to live with her people. There he meets the Old One who tells him that his love will live again & changes him.
Fast forward two & a half centuries & Calisto (once Gregorio) meets Kate on the grounds of the church he once built. He is sure she is his lost love. And so the story ensues. It’s a good book with a bit of a cliffhanger (not much) at the end.
Once again Lisa Kessler has totally thrilled me...

Highly recommended for anyone over 18..
The story is well written and the characters very well built and for a first book in the series it's very well done. I didn't feel bombarded with information like in some first books and it definitely wasn't lacking information either.
Callisto was really a great character, very mysterious and I totally dig a man of mystery. I love that he's totally anti-vampire, very insistent that he's a Night Walker and that there's a big difference. His devotion to his long lost love is heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. To live so long without your other half, that's gotta hurt but he did it all for the chance at seeing her again. I love the thought of a man waiting so long just to see his soulmate again, so sweet! And Kate was a great character too, the perfect match for Callisto if you ask me. A little flakey at times, she tended to run if things got too hard for her but for what she's been through it didn't bother me too much. It was to be expected. Their chemistry made up for that anyways. The love scenes were scorching, very sexy! Loved it!
I'm curious about which characters will pop up in future books, especially after that ending. It really hooked me in for the next book because I just gotta know! :)
Overall I give this book 4.5 Moons, and I recommend all vampire lovers read it! I think it's definitely worth your time and money! I'd also recommend it to other paranormal romance lovers. It's always refreshing to find something new and different and this book is definitely that!

Worth every penny, a must read if you like a little suspense with paranormal romance.
The world created is very plausible. The vampire lore itself reminds me of Charlaine Harris and makes a lot of sense. The characters' actions, emotions, and circumstances were all just realistic in such a way as to get invested in the story and put you on the edge of your seat.
*MINOR SPOILER ALERT* The only real issue I had is a very personal one. Some people, while they recognize the severity and brutality of it, don't really mind reading about a rape scene, but I'm not one of them. There are two scenes in the book, one of which is fairly detailed and from the villain's point of view and it left me reeling a bit. Again, that's from a completely subjective point of view. It really isn't that bad, I'm just a little sensitive to it and was unprepared for it.
Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It's a very satisfying ending and leaves us with an ominous promise of what's to come. I look forward to the next installment!
