Aaron's lead, Alexandra, is a young woman who has had tragedy in her life. Loosing both of her parents, one to cancer one to dementia, she lives with her best friend and is dating Matt. Alex is the type of person that we know. Straightforward, seems to have it together, loves her friends. Enter Dante, owner of club T and current obsession of Alex's BFF Lauren. Dante is friendly and charming, though enigmatic. He is a man with a secret.
Speer's story moves along well with clues and information as to what is truly lurking the street of Sydney given as the tale progresses. Speer keeps the tension taut and keeps the action versus interaction well balanced. There is little downtime as the characters move closer and closer to a climactic showdown ending. While I wouldn't necessarily call this a cliffhanger, there are issues left unresolved. Issues that I look forward to revisiting in the next of the series.
You get the history of when the convicts arrive at Botany Bay and have been affected by disease, although ordered to bury them at sea one woman is buried on land. While also some tales from various people which gives, you some clues as to what Dante is.
Lauren thinks Dante is super-hot, Matt is suspicious of the way he acts around he’s girlfriend Alex, and but Alex sees Dante as a friend.
The three go to a club called T where Dante is and when things don’t go according to Lauren’s plans, she ends up going home with Ryan, although the next morning can’t remember anything, which turns into an interesting twist.
Matt turns into the jealous boyfriend and ends up having Dante investigated which causes more problems, getting the attention of Vincent – the vampire king. This causes problems for Dante and eventually Dante, Alex and Michelle get summoned to see the king, where Alex makes a split-second decision that will affect the rest of her life.
By the end of the book questions are answered but leaving you wanting more – can’t wait to read book two.
The main character of the story Alex has had a rough life and I found that I really loved this character. I really enjoyed the way that the author wrote this character and the relationships she has with the people closes to her.
The other main character Dante I instantly loved and found myself wanting to know more and more about this character. I enjoyed the way that he was polite to Alex's friend when she was trying get his attention but he only had eyes for Alex. I cant wait to find out more about him in the next book.
I really enjoyed this story and I am shocked it took me so long to read one of Aaron L.Speer stories. Being Australian I really enjoy when a book is set in places that I know and living so close to Sydney I could easily picture the places that were described in the story. This was an incredible story that the author done an aiming job with. I cant wait to read the rest of the books in the series.
The story starts with a little history of how vampires came to be then there is an attack at a popular pub. Then you are introduced to Alex, Lauren, and Matt. But one night they decide to go to a club by the name of T and their friendship is put to the test when Dante, the owner, becomes protective of Alex and ignores all of Lauren’s advances. Unknown to Alex, Dante holds the answers to all the questions she seeks. But even though Dante is always around when Alex needs him--- is Alex the one whom can save Dante from the clutches of Vincent?
