From the Author
So begins Night of Zealotry, a story where I really felt I had an opportunity to turn this series up a notch. I wrote the first two stories (Fine Wine, Killing the Dead) more for pure enjoyment than anything else. Each of those stories stands alone. Night of Zealotry, however, brings in many elements which go on to form the basis for the future, overarching storyline: vengeful mercenaries, fanatical priests, secret societies, and dark technology gone wonderfully amuck (all some of my favorite things, by the way). Considering that I wrote Night of Zealotry fresh off finishing the second Alchemancer book, The Nullification Engine, no wonder I had dark magic and darker technology on the mind so much.
The list of characters grows in this installment as well, as I introduce, most notably, an old love interest of our favorite assassin in one Elizabeth West. She's smart, sexy, resourceful, and isn't afraid--or reluctant--to take the initiative. As a fictional persona, she deserves (demands?) a series all her own. I've actually considered writing a spin-off story or two featuring her. Maybe soon. For now, she's introduced here and makes a return in Thief's Gambit. She will most certainly appear in many more of the Assassin Without a Name stories moving forward.
I think if you like a good fantasy adventure story, you'll enjoy this latest installment. I hope you'll check it out, along with the other stories in the series.
