Paranormal Romance -May 7th 2013
Nightbound continues Lynn Viehl's paranormal vampire series, Lords of the Darkyn. As a monkish Darkyn is sent to find magical but dangerous emeralds.
The mysterious and powerful green emeralds are purported to give the owner immortality. But the Darkyn fear they may be dangerous in the wrong hands. As a result, they have funded a project to find them before anyone else. Beaumaris is the vampire that has been chosen as an agent to manage the dig and keep a close eye on the archaeologist Dr. Alys Stuart.
Aly is young, brilliant, and beautiful. Her work is her life. She has never longed for romance or love. However, the sudden appearance of a sexy overseer has her unexpectedly tongue tied. But they are not the only ones looking for the emeralds and a deep and tangled game of secrets and lies will prove deadly.
Readers of this series will enjoy discovering the secrets behind the mysterious emeralds. Finding the emeralds drove this story. I wanted to find out what the emeralds did where they came from! The author skillfully creates a story that seems disconnected and combines them into a thrilling end. My favorite character surprisingly is the enigmatic and too good to be true Mr. Leeds. He is an impeccable human with astonishing skills. And a man who knows more than he appears to.... I wish the author had expanded on this fascinating character. On the other hand, the hero, still seems a puzzle. I was intrigued by the snippets of Beaumaris's past but by the end of the book I did not feel as polarized by his character as Mr. Leeds. Alys is a `young' character.Read more ›
In the previous volume, Jamys joined the evening challenge and defeated all his father's men. Jamys won the boon of practicing with the guard. His father was rather displeased at the use of lethal weapons against his son, but his guard chief explained the need.
Later, Chris answered a request for intervention from the armorer. Darkyn visitors were arguing with the guards. Chris acts liked a prissy matron and convinced the visitors to turn in their swords.
Jamys delivered a summons from the High Lord to Lucan's jardin. He had not visited the suzerain for three years, but Lucan and Sam were pleased to have him. Chris was a little shocked and avoided him while she prepared to greet him.
Sam was called in on a murder case. The owner of a jewelry store was killed elsewhere and returned to the store while the killer(s) looted the place. The victim had very strange wounds on his back.
In this novel, Jayr mac Byrne is a Darkyn and the suzerain of Orlando. She and Aedan have traded places. Now she runs the castle catering to the tourist trade.
Aedan mac Byrne is a Darkyn and the seneschal of Jayr. He had been a commander of the Scots during the battle of Bannockburn. Now he tends to her needs.
Harlech is Captain of the guard. He is the foster brother to Beaumaris.
Beaumaris is a guardsman in the castle. Beau's talent is telekinesis.Read more ›
This story is about an archeologist, 26 year old Alys, who has theorized that a Templar Knight made his way to Florida and hid something, possibly a treasure, just outside of Orlando. Beaumaris, is the Dark Kyn ordered to help and ultimately watch the good doctor as she sets up a dig site and begins to narrow the search. Little does she know that there are others watching her and that they will stop at nothing to steal the treasure, which most believe are emeralds that grant immortality.
What I like about this story, other than it is well written and cameos many of the favored characters from previous stories, is that while Alys acknowledges how hot Beau is, she isn't instantly swept off her feet and they actual spend time, while digging, getting to know each other. I also love that Beau is a hot, buff alpha guy but is also kind, thoughtful and humble. The combination of the two characters is a genuine fit and makes the story interesting and believable.
Recommended, but start at the begging for the most enjoyment.

I've read a lot of books in this series, and this one was okay in comparison. It was a fairly easy read, and there were several parts where I didn't want to stop and just read on. Read morePublished on November 8, 2013 by Emory Criss
