Chloe Mason’s childhood memories consist of seemingly endless hospital stays. Now all grown up and healthy, her determination to fill the gaping holes in her past leads her to her long-lost brother, Harry . . . which brings Harry’s friend and business partner, Mike Keillor, crashing into her life and her heart.
Former Marine Force Recon sniper and SWAT officer—a martial arts expert and owner of a successful security company—Mike can deal coolly and efficiently with any threat . . . until he’s blindsided by something he never expected: fierce, fiery passion . . . and love.
But when Chloe inadvertently crosses the Russian mob, Mike realizes that evil is darkening his world once again. He has already lost his family; he will not lose the woman who enflames him, who makes him whole. Failure is not an option.

Mike Keillor is part of RBK a high end security company. He is in fact a partner in the firm. He's an ex Marine and also worked SWAT for the SDPD. He and his brothers Harry Bolt and Sam Reston are all ex-Spec Op military and have made RBK a highly successful security company.
Mike is the only unmarried member of RBK.
He spends loads of time with his partners wives and children. In fact he spends all his time with his brothers, the wives and kids.
He's beginning to get the idea that he's imposing. Nothing great. Just looks between the husbands and wives. He really, really needs to get a life of his own and let his brothers and the wives have some private time, minus him.
Mike is also into sex. Lots of sex. Lately he doesn't care who his partner is and he's usually drunk.
This last time he picked up a real lowlife of a woman. He was screwing her and she was demanding he hurt her. Whoa. Not Mikes style especially since RBK runs an underground RR for battered women. No way is Mike interested in hurting any woman.
Mike cuts things short and takes a good look at where he ended up. He's appalled to note that he was so drunk he never noticed he's in a dump and his partner is an addict. The woman is screaming at him to hurt her and calling him every name in the book.
Mike gets the heck out and since he'd been drinking he left his SUV there at ran back. Five miles. No problem for Mike.
Enter Chloe Mason. Chloe is the daughter of less than loving parents. She's spent a decade in hospitals just getting enough health to walk. Chloe moves slowly and has loads of problem just walking.
Chloe's parents were killed in a car accident and she is the sole beneficiary of an estate worth Millions of dollars. She also learns that she was adopted and has a brother. The brother is Harry Bolt one of the partners at RBK.
Chloe of course hires a PI to find Harry Bolt. Once she locates him she goes to RBK. She's nervous as hell. She has no idea how Harry is going to take the news. She takes her time and lays out her story for Harry, Sam and Mike. Will Harry even want a sister??
Harry is flabbergasted and ecstatic. His little sister is alive. All these years he assumed his little sister, Chrissy, was dead. He himself killed the brute who he thought killed her. He had two broken legs, courtesy of that brute but still managed to kill the man.
No one ever told him his sister was alive. He assumed she was dead and no one told him anything different. He was one angry kid and for years thought his Sisters death was something he could have prevented. Much to Chloes heartfelt joy Harry is ecstatic that she's alive and has come to him.
Mike is floored by Chloe's beauty and sweetness. He is also overjoyed that Harry's sister is miraculously alive after all these years. Talk about a miracle.
In the middle of this joyous occassion the SDPD shows up.
The detective wants to talk with Mike. Mike can't figure out why till the detective tells him that the woman he was with last night was in the hospital after being beaten very badly. She named him as her attacker. Mike is floored. He tells the officer what happened but evidence he was there is what the SDPD is seeing and of course the victims charges.
Mike, Harry and Sam all head for the PD.
Chloe gets in contact with the PI she used to find Harry.
Chloes PI immediately starts looking at the cameras between the apartment and Mikes home. Mike ran home and he's on every camera heading home. The timeline on the camera footage proves the time Mike left and when he arrived at his house. Its proof that the woman was lying. Her timeline is way the hell off. Mike is cleared. Mike thinks Chloe is the greatest. He's drawn to her like he's never been drawn to a woman before. In fact he and Chloe almost head for the sack.
However brother Harry knows Mike and his lifestyle for the past few years. He tells Mike hands off. Mike obliges but he hates it. He's really attracted to Chloe and she is attracted to him.
Mike cools off around Chloe and she can't understand it. Its as if they are just friends now with no future. She's flumoxed at the change in Mike.
Chloe's health improves with Mike teaching her physical fitness. She also works part time at the RBK shelter for battered women.
Chloe lands in a mess when she tries to help some of the sex slaves at the Meteor Club. The club is run by Russians and the women are slaves to whatever a paying customer wants.
Chloe never gives the women advice. She just listens to the stories. The Russians are not happy and send a couple of thugs to let Chloe know what goes on at the Meteor Club is none of her business. Of course Mike gets there and kicks some serious ass.
Just a great story with great dialogue and some super hot guys and the women they love.
Chloe has come looking for her long-lost brother, Harry Bolt, a member of the security firm that Mike is part owner in. Harry is overwhelmed with joy to finally find his sister, and Mike is overwhelmed by the instant love he feels for her. When she is quite innocently accused of sabotaging the Russian mafia's prostitution ring, Mike becomes the hero that we all want him to be.
Nightfire by Lisa Marie Rice is an intriguing tale, but be forewarned: squeamish readers need not apply! There are torture scenes in this book that are quite graphic, but the story will keep you at the edge of your seat.
The only thing I didn't care for so much, was that she is a counselor, and as they get together, he has issues too- and as they are getting closer and getting together, she like lectures/counsels him. It came off too much like her counseling him- not as girlfriend listening/talking stuff. I didn't care for that. But that's me. I wouldn't want to have that in the bedroom. But that's only one scene.
