Superbly and Masterfully Done! A tale to keep in my library, for sure. A new Knight immerged, one who captivated my interest and earned a spot in my heart.
Sir Patrick de Wolfe, he is half English and half Scot, but completely an English Knight in training and in his mentality. He is the Garrison Commander of Berwick Castle. He has Black Raven Wing Hair and eyes the color of Jade and is known as The Nighthawk because he is cunning, very swift and merciless in battle. That alone is very impressive, but add on to this he is the son of the legendary Willam de Wolfe, "The Wolfe". All of these qualifications have earned him his most coveted position of being the head of King Henry's Lord Protectors. A position he has worked very hard to achieve. As he is getting ready to fulfill his new assignment, he must handle a skirmish which is taking place along the borders of Scotland and England close to his current post. There he rescues a female Captive and from someone else's lips learns the knowledge of her existence may cause a war that no one has ever seen the likes of. He knows he must seek counsel from the most important knight he knows, The Wolfe.
Brighton de Favereux, a postulate, has been now kidnapped from a priory and is in the middle of a battle. When all is said and done, she is left with the English instead. She is terrified and the enormous knight promises to keep her safe. Brighton fears the English. They are her enemies. This is what she has been told her entire life. Now she will learn real world truths.
Sir Patrick may come to realize with time, what this beautiful captive can do to his mind, soul and to his very existence. Brighton may come to learn that all is not as it seems and that new emotions can exist and possibly death along with it.
A fantastic story in itself, but made so much more meaningful with the de Wolfe characters and antics of old. It brought suspense, moments of laughter and tears. Again, this is one to keep.
I couldn't decide if I liked how the author started this book, and still can't. She gives you part of the story or where it is heading at the beginning. I can't remember when I have read where she has done that before. I have read maybe 20 of her books. It is very unusual and so is the story line, very unique too.
I am not going into the premise, as I can't compete with the blurb, but you will be drawn in immediately to this couple. I wish I kept track of all the layers of suspense, twists and build up of character's, quite different. It warmed by big Polish heart to visit with many of the father's/mother's/brother's/sister's/cousins from many of the author's previously stories.
On a sad note, our old hero's from previous books are getting old. I know eventually in KLV future books will have this old guard dying and I am already mourning their lost, which is part of life, bit still sad because reading about William, Kieran and Paris has brought me many escapes.
My only complaint and if I could delete 1/2 star I would. The author must repeat 8+ times the h parents . The filler over and over wasn't necessary. Why not say so and so was explained her heritage? Small detail but became annoying. Not bad if that was the only thing upsetting me.
I found a lot of humor, innocence and purity in our h. How she unknowingly was capturing our H heart - this big strong knight. The romance builds slowly and was another thing that kept me from putting the book down.
it is now 3:30 a.m., and I just finished reading this story. Just when you think it is going to end and every thing wrapped up, the author throws us another amazing curve and I felt I ran a marathon (now that is a picture if you saw my fluffy body).
As the author has said many times, her books can be a stand alone. But for those of us who devour her books, it was an added bonus to meet old friends again.
There is I think only 1 very mild descriptive lovemaking, within marriage. We get a great HEA, amazing ending, and so many stories within this story that it is well worth your time and money to purchase this book. No long drawn out misunderstanding, which I so dislike. We are also treated to an epilogue about 1 year in the future. (ljb)
