About the Author
Award-winning writer Ioana Visan has always dreamed about reaching the stars, but since she can't, she writes about it. After fighting the apocalypse aftermath in "Human Instincts", she played with shapeshifters in "Blue Moon Café Series: Where Shifters Meet for Drinks", she dealt with vampires in "The Impaler Legacy" series, and then she designed prosthetics in "Broken People" before tackling longer works like a fantasy trilogy and a science fiction series. Aside from publishing short stories in various Romanian magazines and anthologies, she published a Romanian short story collection "Efectul de nautil" and the Romanian edition of "Human Instincts". She received the Encouragement Award from The European Science Fiction Society at Eurocon 2013. For more information, please visit http://www.ioanavisan.tk

I've read the Impaler series & the Wings series but I like the Nightengale circus series the best!
There are many interesting characters. I don’t want to linger on any one specifically. You will be introduced to the Nightingale, the Blade Masters, the Magician, the Swan, the Firebird, the Rocket Girl, and the Golden Lady. Since this is a prequel to the series you will have plenty of reading time to catch up on them all. Each character has an alteration or prosthetic that brings their unique story to the table. I can tell you that I can’t wait to see how these characters really come to life.
The Nightingale Circus has a science fiction feel to it. The time of the story isn’t one hundred percent certain to me. However, it wasn’t needed to keep you reading through. I’m hoping to see more detail about the places the circus sets up in the future stories. Since this is the start of “The Broken People” series, I have no doubt in my mind that Ioana Visan will disappoint in any way.
Are you looking for a different read? Then this book is for you. It has interesting characters, a unique story, and promise of more to come. I’m really looking forward to continuation of this series.
I liked finding out about how this group of people got together. Each has a reason to be there, whether it is because of a physical reason or a societal reason. I like how the world building of the Broken People series stays true to the world first met in Broken People. Aurore who is the Golden Lady in Broken People has an interesting story. I do not believe her whole story has been revealed though.
I look forward to more tales coming from the Broken People world. It is going to be a wild ride as we find out more about how this world is at war and how some have power. I am ready for more.
Ioana Visan knocks another one out of the park!!!
*I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
'The Nightingale Circus Collection' was definitely creative. I enjoyed the storyline and how the tale played out. The creativity was awesome. Who knew the idea of 'prosthetics' could be intriguing? I loved how each character had special talents that involved futuristic scientific technology of sorts. Like I said, very creative. I look forward to reading more of this story. The characters are too awesome to let go. I've read books by Ioana Visan before and have yet to be let down. I truly enjoy her stories. This book is a great add to your tbr list. Recommended read.
The title gives away a little bit about the plot and that's how we know that the action revolves around The Nightingale Circus, but there were things that I didn't see coming. Every chapter talks about another character and how he got to work for the circus. These people are gifted, but also "broken". My favorite is the Golden Lady because I was touched by her dramatic life, but they are all special. The way prosthetics were used to fix them made me want to participate into one of their surgeries to learn more from them. I was amazing! So steampunk!
You need to read it to find out all the cool new technology that is used!
I truly enjoyed the read, though I did find it a little incomplete. I thought that the storyline that pulls all the characters together could have be developed a bit more, and woven through the disparate sketches to turn a collection of stories into a single story a bit more effectively. This became even more apparent after reading the wonderful Broken People.
The plot of the story mostly revolves around Circus and various people inside it. (As indicated by the title.)
However, what really made the book great for me was the fact all of the characters were a delight to read about.
And perhaps the most interesting part of the whole book would be the subtle yet persistent presence of racism that exists between those who are different. It is often easy to miss the social aspects of the world that the story takes place, but it is something that one should definitely keep an eye on.
If you haven't had a chance to read this book, I think you should most definitively give it a try.
