About the Author

Maple Summers is the sound of air being sucked in and breaths exhaled sharply. She is a writer, dancer, musician, and artist who strives to give form to the complexities of the human spirit and its wants, desires, thoughts, sufferings, victories, and failures in the form of verse and more recently, in prose. She began writing prose and poetry at the age of ten and was an active journal keeper. She participated in the Wordsmith writing competition at 13, and won a writing contest with one of her short stories at 15, where she also played viola in the orchestra, danced and sang in the show choir (mostly danced, as singing is not a well-fitted suit in her closet). By college, she hadn’t written any prose in several years only wrote prose under "great duress," until she discovered the hybrid of prose poetry which unleashed a whole new range of creativity. Since then, she’s published two poetry collections, and four short stories. Writing in both formal verse and freeform, she further explored the form of prose poetry that inspired her book, Dear Lover, which covers some of her personal anecdotes in letter formats in an effort to make her writing more relatable to persons of all ages and backgrounds. Her poem "This is what we should've feared" has been published by Belleville Park Pages, an international literature magazine, in the summer of 2014, and her first poetry collection, Dear Lover, was published in December of 2014. She draws influence from her studies in music, dance, writing, and art, and enjoys holing up during cold days in her room with an endless cup of green tea or coffee while cuddling with her cat, Shakespeare. Lori Jenessa is currently working through her first novel, Take Me In, a book about a young girl struggling not only with womanhood but also the sudden loss of her own sister, which causes her to gain custody of her niece and forces her to become a parent. Take Me In will be available in summer of 2016.
