Timothy was a great male main character. He was smart and funny. Even while scared and vulnerable he was still strong. He was a great and loyal friend from beginning to end. Abigail was quirky and strong-willed, and great counterpart to Timothy. I especially loved Abigail's grandmother, this frail old woman was amazing and could still kick-butt in her own way!
Dan Poblocki did a great job of bringing all of the nightmares to life and making this book creepy and still fun at the same time. It was intense and kept me on the edge of my seat from the first page to the last. Normally I can figure out the mysteries in a book before they were revealed and that just didn't happen with this one. I loved the way it was all wrapped up, even when I thought I had the ending all figured out and new curve ball was thrown at me!
I recommend this one to anyone who loves a good YA, thriller, mystery, or horror book. Just make sure you have all the lights on as you read it ;-)
It all starts several years earlier when Abigail's grandmother, Zilpha Kindred takes a picture of a July 4th sky as the fireworks begin. In her picture, she also captures the kidnapping of her best friend, 14 year old Delia Benson. Delia is never found and her kidnapper denies taking her. Zilpha testifies against the kidnapper, and he is sentenced to life in prison, where he later dies. Revenge has a funny way of rearing its ugly head, and this time it has it's sights on Zilpha and Abigail, Timothy, Stuart and Mr. Crane and others who were involved in the kidnapping case....
Timothy had already been having nightmares about his brother Ben who was injured overseas when his unit was attacked. But now the nightmares were terrifying. Abigail had already been having nightmares about two mean girls that she had nicknamed The Nightmarys. But now they were appearing in her room at night, faceless and taunting. Stuart nearly drowns because he is attacked in the pool by a monster only he can see. The nightmares are turning into real and deadly threats. It's up to Abigail and Timothy to find out what sort of revenge the kidnapper from years ago has somehow cursed them with.Read more ›
'The Nightmarys' is a story told through Timothy. He was partnered up with the new girl in his class, Abigail. Things seem to be normally strange for Timothy but after Abigail is in his life, it goes from strange to bizarre. They suddenly find themselves on a quest to rid themselves from these nightmares that happen whether they are sleeping or not! It was definitely creepy! Poblocki doesn't reveal too much info about the characters so it leaves a lot to imagination. And I love that! I love that I can read about a character and just being able to picture what I think they look like from head to toe.
Poblocki's other novel, 'The Stone Child' is definitely being added to my "To Buy" list. If it's half as good and creepy as 'The Nightmarys' I know I'm going to love it! Poblocki definitely delivered with 'The Nightmarys.' As usual, this was another book I was holding off from and it turns out, I loved it! haha. Can't wait to read 'The Stone Child.'
