Great shoes for trail running / racing / hiking

I wore these for two trail races through national forest - a half-marathon, and a full marathon, and these shoes worked out great! They fit as I expected them to, I didn't have any hot-spots from rubbing, and the shoes were comfortable throughout both races. To be fair... I also wore Darn Tough wool/nylon/lycra running socks, so I don't know if running with cotton socks would be as comfortable.

I read another review that mentioned that they didn't like that the exterior side of the tongue is sewn closed. It was strange the first time I put them on, but I really learned to appreciate it when the marathon took a one-mile jaunt along a sandy beach. It really helps keep dirt, sand and what-not from getting into the shoes and causing blisters, or worse.

The soles provided solid traction through mud, dirt and wet sand. I don't recommend running in dry sand (the sand moves, but you don't so much). After both races the tread still looks good, so they'll be getting laced up for a few more races.

Unfortunately, the shoes did not make me any faster, so no trophies yet. I really don't think it's the shoes though.

These are GREAT shoes. I am a dedicated runner and if you are running hardcore, desert trails these shoes are the right purchase. The tongue especially is a great innovation. And the large toe-box, while at first a bit too big, works really well when your feet start to swell. If you run ultras, these shoes are for you.

My only note is that the "last" (the term for the pattern used to make the basic proportions of the shoe) is just slightly long for the other dimensions of the shoe. In other words, if it fits, you will need slightly long feet for a perfect toe and heel length. The Brooks Pure Grit, for example, are just a centimeter shorter at the toe and heel. This is a very individual issue, and you need to be aware of your size before you shop online. I'd also note that these are not really beginner shoes -- if you're just getting going on trails, look for more padding. The Nike Wild Horse for example.

I like the Terra Kriger 3 as do many other runners. I would have loved it even more in my youth when 30+ years ago my favorite trail shoes (though no such category existed) was the Nike Elite (Zoom?) or the Waffle Racer. Now with a slow and heavier stride I find the forefoot to be a bit thin and I think it does not have a rock plate. That said the shoe fits great and feels great. Traction is very good. I think on my good days I will enjoy it a lot and on my sluggish days which are in the majority I will like it but wish for a bit more. I also run in the NB Leadville and Salomon Mission and Sense Mantra. The Terra Kriger is closest to the Sense Mantra but has much better traction.

Great shoe. Stupid tongue design.

Ordered a size 15, the shoe fits as all my other Nike shoes do in the toes, and I like the roomy forefoot width of this shoe. But I dislike the "burrito" style tongue (its attached on the instep side AND the normal place where the tongue would connect behind the toes, and wraps around the foot like a burrito shell). The tongue isn't wide enough to wrap around the top of my foot. My feet are big lengthwise, but not weirdly shaped archwise or widthwise, and I've never had a tongue fail to cover the entire top of my foot between the laces on any shoe but these. Its not extremely pronounced, but my sock shoes through and the tongue looks crooked on my feet. Nonetheless Ilove the tread and lightweight and they felt good walking the trail.

I enjoy wearing this shoe. My orthotics fit well, and the bright color scheme I chose is easily visible from a distance. The tread has worked perfectly for me on asphalt, concrete, grass, and dirt. I have yet to try them in mud, but they should do well. Luckily I tried these on at a local shoe store to find that they ran a half size smaller than my size 10 1/2 Nike shocks, so I opted for the size 11. Great job Nike!

Sole peels off! Poor quality!

Shoes were great for 2 months, but then the sole on my right shoe started peeling off. Very poor quality!!!
I contacted Nike, and they said since its bought through an Amazon seller, and not the Nike authorized store, they can't help me!
