Product Description

Nikon's African Riflescope Series. Africa has long been a continent of dreams and danger for hunters around the world. For those seeking their adventure on the Dark Continent, Nikon has a riflescope series that is more than ready for the hunt. Three riflescopes - all with ultra wide fields of view - make up the new Monarch African Series from–a one-inch tube 1-4x20mm and two 30mm tube 1.1-4x24mm models. Each scope features Nikon's fully multicoated optics to provide crystal clear viewing and a power range designed to handle fast shots with dangerous game. "In a dangerous game situation the hunt can turn from lazy to deadly in less than a second," said Jon LaCorte, Senior Product Marketing Manager for Nikon Sport Optics. "And that's when you will really appreciate every feature we built into our African Series of riflescopes."Hard charging game requires hard hitting rifles and Nikon's four full inches of eye relief will keep all the pain on the barrel end. The lower power range keeps shooters on target in fast, "both eyes open" situations. The easy, light to handle 20mm and 24mm objectives combine with Nikon's durability to carry the rifle without worry. All of the African Series scopes are built around what works when hunting dangerous game in Africa and beyond and utilize the proven German #4 reticle for fast target/reticle acquisition. For late night predators of the toothy kind and other low-light hunting, an illuminated #4 is available as well. And since it's a Monarch, crystal clear images and light transmission second to none will help make the Dark Continent seem a little brighter. The 1/2 MOA adjustment means a fast, sure sight-in. A large field of view gets you on target fast, when it literally can mean life or death for the hunter or the hunted.

I guess I found out the hard way why Nikon discontinued this scope. It was billed as an African dangeruse game scope but they should have called it just a dangerus scope to use on big game. It is a very clear and bright scope but the eye releive is way to short to use on the very big bore guns. I bought it to use on a 500 Jeffery but there is no way I will put it on that gun unless I want to get cut by the scope. Maybe OK on a my 416 Rigby on low power only but I think it's best suited to a 375 H&H. The eye releife on the lowest setting is just under 4" but on the highest setting it is under 3". Other then the too short eye relief, it's a fine scope.
------ Follow up after using the scope on a recent elephabt hunt using a 500 Jeffery, Well the scope worked great but it did cut me on the lowest power at the range. But in the feild it was fine. Shot one elephant at 15 yards and the elephant's head was wider then the field of veiw at that range so might have been better off with open sights, but the second elephant was shot at 100 yards at night and the scope was great. But under any condition on rifles as big as 500 Jeffery, I would only use the scope on the lowest power. For less powerfull guns, this scope is great. And that's my opinion from using it in Africa. I ended up giving the scope to my PH becuase he loved it and now I find my self buying a new one to replace it. I understand Nikon plans to bring this scope back in to production.
