NIKON NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S is simply the best 35mm I've ever used and one of the best lenses in general. Don't let the 1.8 fool you, mirrorless lenses and the Nikon Z lenses specifically have changed how we think about lenses. This lens is seriously sharp edge to edge. The resolving power and new coatings are a game changer. The bokeh is creamy and lovely however can be a bit busy with busy backgrounds due to how sharp the lens is and the antiglare coatings. This lens provides an gorgeous modern look. It is so sharp, the contrast is so good and the color rendition is so good, that we just have not seen it's like before now. I am a commercial photographer who specializes in apparel and catalog and I do allot of landscape for personal work. The NIKON NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8 S is perfect for both of these. Focusing is very fast, quiet and very accurate delivering utterly stunning results. Very low distortion and no chromatic aberration or color fringing at all. I could not be happier. I will be earning allot of money with lens. I already have actually. Absolutely one of the best bangs for the buck out there, with exception of the 50mm 1.8 S which is less expensive and even sharper.

I shoot family portraits and weddings for a living. I can use this on the Family portraits on my Nikon Z6 and it is a very sharp lens with good contrast and fast focus.
I use a 85mm Z on my second Z6 on portraits for a two camera setup.
The 35mm for the group photos and the 85mm for the single and two people photos.

This is an excellent lens but it has a fatal flaw that makes it problematic for me.

I wish I'd known about this but this was my first Z lens (I had used the FTZ with my native F glass up until this point). In either case I wasn't aware that the Z-lens would reset focus ever time I turn off the camera. Nasim over at Photography life writes about this major oversight but I didn't catch it prior to purchase. Given I tend to set focus at infinity for my landscape and starscape photography and lock it in place with gaffer tape this became a no go for me as I hate resetting focus. While I can keep the camera on that just eats battery which on the Z6 is a no go. Nasim hopes they'll fix this in a firmware but I can't buy into any Z lenses until they do as I'm worried its a design issue that can't be fixed in firmware (maybe not but I can't take the risk). I'm so upset about this I may just stick to the FTZ adapter or even just get some Sony lenses and the new Techart adapter. I just don't understand why Nikon would do this.

I did find that in the "sleep" mode the camera retains focus but it also continues to eat up battery and I prefer to switch the camera off between composing shots as otherwise the slightest button press wakes up the camera and I'm already traveling with 3 spare batteries where I used to just travel with 1 on my D750...

I love the Z6. Still getting used to the focus system but the results are stellar and way worth the upgrade over my D750. That said until this issue is resolved in the Z lenses I can't buy in to them. I've since read all Z lenses out to this point have this issue. While it doesn't bother me for street and portrait as noted I mainly do landscape and astrophotography. Let's hope they address this in a firmware as I'll definitely buy this lens (or it's 1.4/1.2 version) if Nikon addresses this fatal flaw.

I will say up front, I don't normally shoot primes. But I decided to invest in some for my Z6 as the kit lens at f4 limited some shots I wanted.

Right out of the box it looks and feels like all the other S lenses. Not too heavy, quality construction, everything you could hope for. But it's the image quality that stunned me. For 15+ years I've carried a Nikon DSLR and a zoom lens, for many years a 24-70/2.8 lens. I've always bought primes but never used them much at all. These S lens are different, I've pretty much completely switched to using primes!

The sharpness, speed, and quietness are talked about a lot. Obviously all stellar but there is a very difficult to describe image feel to the S primes. Yup they're 'only' f1.8 lenses, but having used 1.4 f mount lenses I'm not missing anything at all. You can shoot these S primes wide open at 1.8 all day and the quality is stunning.

I recently traded in my 24-70/4s kit lens for the f2.8s version. But I'm still finding I prefer to shoot with the prime lenses. The 35mm being one of the 3 I pretty much carry everywhere now. If you have a Z6/7 get yourself some of the primes, they're definitely worth it.

Mag sein, dass das Z-Objektiv im Vergleich zu einfacheren Objektiv-Konstruktionen etwas hochpreisig ist, allerdings hat z.B. das Sigma Art 35 bei Erscheinen genauso viel gekostet.
Dafür bekommt man im Vergleich zum Sigma Art (das ich auch besitze):

1. Einen Autofokus der, sehr schnell und sehr leise, immer und überall sitzt
2. Ein Objektiv das für die hohe Abbildungsleistung/Schärfe sehr leicht ist
3. Eine hervorragende Abbildungsleistung schon bei Offenblende
4. Bei Offenblende schon scharf bis an den Rand (keine Bildfeldwölbung!)
5. Es besitzt fast keine Verzeichnung
6. Ein sehr schönes Bokeh
7. Eine unglaubliche Naheinstellungsgrenze
8. Ein natives Objektiv für das Z-System

Ich verwende das Objektiv an meiner Nikon Z 7 und bin sehr zufrieden damit. Was man dem Objektiv negativ ankreiden könnte, wäre ein relativ hoher Lichtabfall am Rand (Vignettierung) bei Offenblende. Ich gehöre allerdings zu den Fotografen, die eine hohe Vignettierung lieben und als Gestaltungsmittel einsetzen, also freue ich mich auch darüber. :)

Wer nicht auf jeden Euro schauen muss und ein lichtstarkes, hochwertiges 35er sucht, kommt nicht daran vorbei. Ob 1.4 oder 1.8 in diesem Fall wichtig ist, muss jeder für sich entscheiden. Beispielbilder (alle bei 1.8, RAW in JPG mit Capture NX-D konvertiert) anbei: 1.Motiv mit Fokus auf Bildmitte. 2. Motiv Naheinstellung. 3. Katze geht immer!
